In trying to burn disc from computer, could not get program to recognize that the disc was new and unwritten. After purchasing a name brand, I was able to complete the task

I use the product to record over-the-air TV broadcasts. Some discs unexpectedly/inexplicably fail (become unreadable) after only a few uses. It's not unusual to come across cracked jewel cases when opening a 10-disc pack. I buy Staples brand to keep costs down, but will buy name brands instead when/if they go on sale.
