Originally I used a very basic laminator which lasted me six years. Fairly small footprint, no bells & whistles, but it worked. When the motor burned out recently, I decided to upgrade to the H425 since I laminate almost 100 pages per day.

Right out of the box I noticed that this laminator has a huge footprint. It's 21" long, 5.5" high, & 7" wide, not including the wire rack that catches the laminate as it exits the machine. The size was disappointing, but not a deal breaker. However it also deposits what I assume is melted laminate onto each page...the pages feel just a little oily, and it leaves crusty deposits of plastic on the pages. The cardboard "cleaner" that is supposed to remove these deposits is wholly inadequate.

The most disappointing aspect of this machine is the way that it spontaneously folds the corners of the pages, so that a page that goes in smooth comes out with folded corners that harden and are impossible to straighten unless you run it through the laminator again. The second time it comes out, you guessed it, with MORE folded corners! Ultimately you get pages that look extremely abused and shabby, even though they've just come out of the laminator. I would advise getting a deal on a basic laminator and just using the paper carriers that are included with the boxes of laminate. This laminator does not accept carriers.

We used this to make luggage tags at a trade show and it provided a tight seal and using the 10 mil was the best way to go for a sturdy tag. People flocked to our table!
