Wanting to have one at home and one at the office, I purchased a "value pack" based on the Staedtler name and without looking at the back. This pack is "Made in China". Shortly after buying, the barrel began cracking. I have had one stamped GERMANY for years with few signs of wear. I will be buying the pencil only pack since it is "Made in Germany". Staedtler needs to be wary of giving themselves a bad name with lower quality products.

I use the pencil as a mechanical carpenters pencil. It has a large enough lead to be effective on lumber but produces a much more accurate line than most wooden carpenters pencils.
