I am writing this in response to the users who were unable to connect the hub to the base. It's really a simple procedure that requires you to look closely at what you're doing and carefully attach the snap-fit device together.

You have to be sure that you connect by guiding one of the small snap-fit protrusions on the underside of the hub into one of the matching slots atop the base; after you have one of them in place, you must hold it in place as you press-fit the other fitting by applying pressure to the center of the hub while firmly holding the base; or you can secure the hub to the base by using a table top or desk top for applying the necessary pressure to secure the final 'snap' fitting into place--there are two such snap-fits on this device: you'll see the slots on the USB hub and the corresponding protrusions on the base. I use my device as a 'dumb' hub with no AC power: I have an AC-powered printer and a wireless battery-operated laser mouse attached to the hub; and because each has its own power supply there is no need to power the hub, it can be used as a USB-device combiner/joiner, providing access to a single USB port on a computer.

Note: if you are going to screw the base to a desk or stand that you've made, you must do this prior to securing the hub to the base. The above procedure can be done with the base securely fastened to a desk or makeshift stand.the top of the base prior to securing the hub to the base.

I mounted this on my desk, and now use it for thumb drives, usb chat headset, and card reader.
I no longer need to get out of my chair or bend over to use usb devices. It will get you 3 more open usb ports at no loss of speed because it has an external power source. Also it charges my cell phone and pda with no need to have my computer on!
