Before I use the Broom Vac I sweep the dirt and trash on the floor into a pile with a regular broom, then I use the Broom Vac to suction the pile I created. The Broom Vac is too heavy to use as a broom. It's a great dust pan but it's not a broom.The brush on the Broom Vac is too short for sweeping. I started to return it but I changed my mind because it's such a great dust pan. I don't have to bend over to sweep up the mess into a dust pan which is great. Also, you cannot sweep everything into a dust pan but the Broom Vac sucks it all up. This is only great for hardwood floors. It does not work on carpet. If your looking for a broom that suctions while you sweep, don't by this! If your looking for a dust pan that suctions the mess, after you've sweeped the mess into a pile this is a great item. I would recommend this to older people who have a hard time bending over when cleaning.
