Designed for HIGH MAINTENANCE

This was being used in a doctor's office. The first unit started printing crooked 2-sided copies in about 4 weeks. Staples replaced the first unit promptly. The second unit was doing the same thing within a month so we stopped doing 2-sided copies (which increased paper costs). Later the feeder mechanism became unreliable so we hand fed copies (which increased my labor costs). The toner/drum roller units needed frequent replacement (which really increased toner costs). At first I thought someone was using the copier for personal purposes, since I had to change the $180 toner cartridge every 3 weeks. Finally I looked at the cartridge design and saw that it was not made to accept toner reloads. Also the cartridge contained a very small amount of toner (less than my cheap fax machine holds)and each cartridge has the drum roller and fuser unit built right into the molded case, so you have to buy a new drum roller and new fuser unit with every toner reload (which significantly increases toner costs). It appears that this unit was purposely designed to be expensive to run. I have never spent so much to run a copier in my life. It's best use is landfill.

I do like this printer; however, it was purchased to replace one exactly like it that stopped working after 13 months. The estimated repair cost was too much to justify a repair with only a 90 day warrantly, so we opted to buy another.

This is my third of this line of machine. My first one lasted 2 years of heavy use then the rollers wore out. My last one I have had for 3 years and the only thing wrong with it was the document feeder on the top of the machine quit working so we had to fax from the flatbed. This is a very versitile machine with fax,copy,print capability (I have never used it as a scanner.)I also like that it is small and print quality is excellent!
I figure this is a bargain compared to renting an commercial machine for $1200 per year.
