The photographs from this printer are better than the lab. I am a pet photographer and I was shocked at the quality of the photographs. This printer does everything but drive me to the photo sessions. You will regret it if you don't purchase this 5 in 1 printer.

Purchased this machine because of its features. Setup was pretty easy. The wireless worked the first time. However, after printing only about 40 pages and a couple of 4x6 photos, the black ink cartridge was over 1/2 half used! I returned the printer and got an HP. The Epson was very fast and I liked the touchscreen. However, I don't want to spend a fortune on ink.

I love the touch screen, very handy. One of my favorite features is the CD print. It saves from purchasing CD Labels because you just insert your printable cd in the tray and it labels it for you. I scan and print lots of photos and it does a great job. Another handy feature are the two paper trays, one for your photo paper & the other for plain paper.
The only thing I don't like about the machine is that it's loud. Making copies, faxing, whatever, it makes lots of noises while it's cycling; turning on and off.

I bought this printer during an upgrade of my home office, after having already purchased an HP C6280. I used to have an Epson ActionLaser 1100, many years ago, and it worked perfectly until I could no longer find toner for it. I have never owned an Epson inkjet and didn't do a lot of research on the Artisan 800 before buying it. Staples was offering a $50 rebate if you turned in your old printer and with the features being bally-hooed for this model, it seemed like a good idea. I was really impressed with all the extras in the box: Extra black ink, sample CD-R to test the CD printing feature, LAN and modem cords (but not USB). Off-line installation was smooth when connected as a USB device to my HP dv7 laptop. Printer operation was superior to the 6280 in almost every way - faster and quieter. I tried a couple of pages in normal mode. Quality was so-so. Then I decided to switch to draft mode, to save ink for everyday use. BIG SURPRISE! Draft mode was so faint as to be nearly illegible. I continued using it in draft mode, but after about 20 pages of text with a few small graphics, the inks showed they were nearly half empty! This was supposed to replace an older HP inkjet in my office, but after watching the ink levels drop that fast to print pages I could barely read it was obvious this was not going to work out. I dug out the receipt this morning and fortunately it was within the 14 day return period, so I was able to get a complete refund from Staples. I could run my old HP OfficeJet G85 on draft mode and get legible copies and never worry about how much ink I was using. The printer itself - ebony, piano finish - was a master work of artistry. The rate at which this printer went through ink is just wrong. Epson gets a wag of my finger on this one. Watch for unbelievably low prices on "refurbished" Artisan 800's hitting store shelves near you soon. One of them was mine for 10 short days.

Service & Delivery comments:

Staples return policy saved the day! I was even able to apply my old printer rebate to the purchase of a different brand. I thought I was going to have to cough up a second old printer to get the rebate, but that was not the case. I am concerned, though, that the store manager didn't listen to me and seemed to think I was trying to get a second rebate. She actually walked away from the conversation and pointed me toward one of the other store employees. I picked out a different printer (although I should probably have left the store after being treated this way), and came back to check out. The cashier was having a little trouble figuring out how to refund the Artisan 800 I was returning. She commented to another cashier that she was afraid to ask the manager how to do the return. Finally, another cashier stepped in and got the refund completed properly and then rang up my new purchase. The cashiers at this store did a great job, but I have some concerns about going back, based on the way the store manager treated me and the other employees. It was bizarre.

As a long time Epson user, I expected quality output and great versatility. Both are abundant and easily surpass my prior Epson All-in-one printers. The alternate paper drawer for photo paper surprised and delighted me.

The networking is flawless, even after attempts to confuse the printer by printing from multiple workstations at once. I'm only sorry that I don't have a second home so I can buy another ...
