With the compact, handheld design of the P-Touch 80, you can create durable non-laminated labels for virtually any application from the kitchen to the family room to the home/office. This unit features a 12-character LCD display, and a typewriter-style QWERTY keyboard. With its high quality print resolution, the PT-80 generates sharp labels in 9 type styles and 6 type sizes. It also includes text framing and underlining features. This unit can print up to one line, up to 17 point type, on two different label widths and prints 71 different symbols.

This product has really poor battery life and goes through batteries quickly. It doesn't matter whether you use the better batteries or cheap ones. I do like the easy of use and the quality of labels. I am also happy with the options available.

The labeler works fine and a big benefit is it uses the cheap(er) M tapes. The problem is that batteries need to be at max (by alkaline standards) and, when the alkalines degrade even the slightest amount, the labeler believes the voltage is too low and the unit shuts down. The solution is to use lithium batteries which are 1.7v at full charge instead of alkaline (which are about 1.5v at full charge). Unit works fine with lithium batteries.

Not sure why Brother went to 4 cells on the PT-80, when 6 cells were used in the PT-65. The PT-65 has no problem with using alkaline batteries, even with heavy use.
