They smelt of burnt rubber when you sharpen them but I liked the smell of burnt rubber. The leds thought need some improvement for people like me who like to press hard on pencils to make darker marks, they just brake too easily.

Very difficult to sharpen, but if sharpened work well for small writing tasks. Won't sharpen in our electric sharpener and hurts my hand to use the handheld one. It's great they are recycling tires in a new way, but it's not worth it when they can hardly be sharpened. Ticonderoga are the best pencils - just best to use their non-rubber options.
