I am sure it would do a decent job in defending against fire and water, as it is very heavy, telling me there has to be a lot of insulation and the seal against water is well protected and works well. The tube lock keys let one think it is secure, but to me the lock mechanism itself leaves something to be desired. Also one has to play a bit with the latch to get it to open, you have to push down on the lid to release the preasure on the seal to get it to open, though I suppose this is nessesary to have a good water tight seal. I don't think it would take much to break into this box, but thats not realy its design I guess. It is mainly to defend against fire and water, I think it would do that well. Also it is very heavy, so if one did want to steal it, at least they have to work a bit to carry it off. If one had a quality safe, this would be excellent to put in that safe giving one ultimate protection for their valuables and important papers.
