This is okay for the typical yellow-painted #2 lead pencils but will not work on children's decorative pencils such as "Happy Birthday", "Happy Halloween", "Merry Christmas", etc. These seem to have a plastic coating on them that this pencil sharpener does not like. It gets jammed up and will not sharpen the lead properly. Also, this was only [...] in the store--not the[...] online.
