For someone who never buys extended warranties, this was the first "no brainer" warranty ever. Anytime before 1 year, 364 days, I can return the printer and/or trade up, no questions asked. For [$] at time of original purchase, which was less than half of one ink cartridge, I can get trade what I have for a brand new printer with ink, for any reason, in the next 2 years (minus one day). That seems like an extremely good deal. Printer technology changes fast - what a deal!

This coverage was sold to me at checkout as covering any problems I had with the printer in the first 2 years. At the price it seemed like a no-brainer. I usually don't buy protection plans, but I figured I would this time. Well, 3 months in to owning a Canon Pixma printer it stopped working and keeps giving me an error code when starting up. At first I forgot I had bought the Staples coverage so I called Canon and got nowhere. The support guy took me through 30 minutes of troubleshooting. Then, while still on the phone I found the Staples receipt and realized I had bought the coverage through Staples. At the end of the call the Canon support rep directed me back to Staples since I had the coverage plan. I called Staples and was informed that this plan actually doesn't go into effect until after 1 year which made absolutely no sense to me - it says right on the receipt that I had 2 years of coverage. They said they would help me if Canon denied me service. I told them that I had been denied service and directed back to them. They told me they would need this denial in writing. I spoke to a manager and was told the same thing. Now after over 2 hours of my time I am going to go back through the wringer at Canon and see if I can get something in writing or if they can help me further. Why on earth would you ever buy this Staples plan? That was definitely "NOT easy"

Sharon Solutions handles the warranty claims for Staples and Staples cannot interefer. Sharon Solutions would not provide any troubleshooting and refused to honor the warranty. They have their own interpetation of the protection plan that does not match Staples.
