It's nice to have if your item brakes and if you need it for day 2 day you just cant shell out $ to just buy a new one :)

for an all-in-one to print/copy/scan/fax, you never know if/when these complex products nay fail in some amount. an extra year of warranty is well worth it (especially with the price of the warranty).

I own three Brother HL5250DN printers--two in Colorado. The first had its drum go out in only about 4000 pages, and it was about the same cost to buy a new printer as a new drum, so i bought a replacement. The replacement bought at Staples works well and is the one under warranty. The third here in my school office in CA has frequent paper jams --about every thirty pages.. It cannot be trusted to do large printing jobs. I formerly had great luck with a Brother 1870 printer. It still runs reliably at my home after several years and many printings. The HL5250DN has been disappointing because of poor reliability and its short life.
