Ronald L. Sargent,
Chairman & Chief Executive Officer
Ronald L. Sargent

Ron is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Staples. He was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors in 2005 and has served as CEO since 2002. Ron has held a variety of leadership roles in the company. He was appointed President and Chief Operating Officer in 1998, leading Staples' worldwide operations, retail superstores, delivery business, supply chain management and merchandising and marketing initiatives.  In 1991 he was responsible for launching Staples' delivery business. Sargent began his career at Staples in 1989 as Regional Vice President, leading the company's market entry in Ohio. 

Before joining Staples, Ron held a variety of positions at the grocery chain, The Kroger Company where he did jobs ranging from stocking shelves and working in the mailroom to store operations, human resources, strategy, sales and marketing. 

He currently serves on the Boards of Mattel, Inc. and The Kroger Co.  Ron is also a member of the board of advisors to the Boston College Carroll School of Management. He is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Business School.

Michael Miles,
President & Chief Operating Officer
Michael Miles

Mike is Staples’ President and Chief Operating Officer.  He has primary responsibility for our office products business in North America including, U.S. Stores, Staples Business Depot, and North American Delivery, as well as the marketing, merchandising and supply chain, and real estate functions. Mike and his team focus on ensuring that every one of Staples’ customers enjoys an easy shopping experience, in stores, online or on the phone.  He joined the company in 2003.

Before joining Staples, Mike was COO of Yum! Brands’ Pizza Hut division.  He joined PepsiCo in 1993 where he was Vice President of Strategic Planning and moved to its Pizza Hut unit in 1994 as a Division Vice President. Before that, he worked at Bain and Company, a Boston– based management consulting firm.

Mike is a member of the Board of Directors of Western Union. A native of
 Chicago, he was raised in Louisville, Kentucky. He graduated from Yale University, and earned his MBA from Harvard Business School.

Jay Baitler,
Executive Vice President, Staples Contract
Jay Baitler

Jay is Executive Vice President of Staples’ Contract Division, which provides office supply solutions to medium and large organizations, including many Fortune 1000 companies.  Jay is responsible for business–to–business eCommerce operations, catalog operations, sales, marketing and supplier relationships.

Before joining Staples in 1995, Jay served as Northeast Regional President of BT Office Products. Before that he was President of Summit Office Supply, overseeing all activities related to sales, marketing, operations, distribution, logistics, information systems and merchandising.

Jay serves on the Advisory Council of Office Products International.
 Jay is also Industry Chairman of the Anti–Defamation League and is a former director of Harvard Hillel.

A native of New York City, Jay was raised in Long Beach, New York. He is a graduate of Union College.

John K. Barton,
Executive Vice President, Real Estate
John K. Barton

John is Staples’ Executive Vice President of Real Estate responsible for North American real estate acquisition, worldwide real estate research, property management, engineering and construction, facilities management and fixture procurement. He was promoted to his current position in March 1999.

John joined Staples in February of 1990 as Manager of Engineering and Construction.  Before that, he was Director of Engineering and Construction for American Superstores Development Company in Philadelphia.  He has more than 25 years of experience in the engineering and the real estate development fields.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, John graduated from Villanova University with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering.

John's favorite office product is his BlackBerry®.

Kristin Campbell,
Senior Vice President & General Counsel
Kristin Campbell

Kristin is Staples' Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary, responsible for the strategic management of the company's Legal group, including corporate governance, regulatory compliance, ethics and environmental affairs. She previously served as deputy general counsel, managing the legal team in its support of business and functional groups throughout the company. She has also been responsible for Staples' international legal matters in Europe, Asia and South America. She joined Staples in 1993 as real estate counsel.

Prior to joining Staples, Kristin worked at the law firm Goodwin Proctor in Boston. She began her career as a lawyer with the law firm Rackemann, Sawyer & Brewster in Boston.

She is a board member of the Association of Corporate Counsel–Northeast Chapter and has been a member of the Massachusetts Bar since 1987. Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, Kristin is a graduate of Cornell University School of Law.

Joseph G. Doody,
President, North American Delivery
Joseph G. Doody

Joe is President of Staples’ North American Delivery (NAD) business. He is responsible for Staples Contract, which serves medium sized to Fortune 1000 business; Staples Business Delivery®, which serves small to medium–sized business; and Quill, a 50–year–old direct marketer of office products to small and medium–sized businesses.  Joe joined Staples in 1998 as President of what was then called Staples Contract and Commercial.

Before joining Staples, he was President of Danka’s Office Imaging Business in North America. From 1974 to 1997 he worked at Eastman Kodak in various roles of growing responsibility, the last being General Manager and Vice President, North America, Office Imaging.

Joe is member of the Simon School’s Executive Advisory Committee and serves on the board of Casella Waste Systems.

Born and raised in Batavia, New York, Joe graduated from the State University of New York at Brockport with a degree in economics.  He received his MBA from the Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester.

Jevin S. Eagle,
Executive Vice President, Merchandising
Jevin S. Eagle

Jevin S. Eagle is Executive Vice President Merchandising, responsible for all merchandising categories including technology, supplies and office decor, as well as pricing and portfolio management. He was named to his current position in February 2007.  Prior to that, Jevin was Senior Vice President, Staples® Brand,driving the growth of Staples’ branded product worldwide.  He was named to that position in October 2003. Jevin joined Staples in 2001 as Senior Vice President of Strategy and was one of the principal architects in developing the Staples® Brand Promise, "we make buying office products easy." 

Previously, Jevin was a partner in the retail practice of McKinsey & Co., Inc. From 1990 to 1992, he was cofounder and Vice President of Jewish Light Publishing. Before that, he was an Associate Consultant for Corporate Decisions and a Research Assistant to Professor Arthur Hertzberg at Dartmouth College.

Jevin is Treasurer and past Board Chair of Harvard Hillel and Vice President and past Board Chair of Dartmouth Hillel. He also serves on the Boards of Hillel International and the Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Boston.    

He was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts and raised in Roslyn, New York. Jevin is a Baker Scholar with an MBA from Harvard Business School, and graduated summa cum laude from Dartmouth College.

Shira Goodman,
Executive Vice President, Marketing
Shira Goodman

Shira is Executive Vice President of Marketing, responsible for the strategic, creative, operational and financial aspects of all Staples’ marketing, advertising, public relations and charitable giving programs. Shira was named Executive Vice President of Marketing in 2001.  Before that she served as Senior Vice President of Staples Business Delivery®. Shira joined Staples in 1992 as Senior Vice President of Staples Direct.

Shira came to Staples from Bain and Company where she was a manager. Staples was one of her clients and she helped develop the strategy to launch Staples’ catalog business.

Shira sits on the Board of Directors of CarMax, Inc. A native of Chicago, she was raised in Minneapolis.  She holds a Master of Management Science degree with a concentration in strategy and marketing from MIT’s Sloan School of Management, a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University.

Pete Howard,
Senior Vice President, Staples Business Delivery®
Pete Howard

Pete Howard is Senior Vice President of Staples Business Delivery, which provides office products and services to small and medium–sized business throughout North America via Staples’ eCommerce sites and catalogs.  Pete joined Staples in 2000 as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Staples Business Delivery.

Before Staples, Pete worked for a variety of direct marketers.  He was Vice President of Marketing for Ross–Simons, served as President of a start–up catalog with The Krasner Group, and was Marketing Services Manager with Digital Equipment Corporation. He also held several direct marketing positions at The Bradford Exchange. Pete began his career as Production Planner for Papermate Pen. 

Pete is a volunteer with United Cerebral Palsy of Metro Boston and sits on their Board of Directors.  Born and raised just outside of Boston, Pete earned his BA and MBA from the University of Chicago.  

Pete’s favorite office product is the notebook.

Susan Hoyt,
Executive Vice President, Human Resources
Susan Hoyt

Susan is Staples' Executive Vice President of Human Resources, providing strategic human resources leadership to all Staples operations, including Corporate, North American stores, North American Delivery and International.

Before joining Staples in 1996, Susan worked at Dayton Hudson Department stores where she served as Executive Vice President of Store Operations.
  She also held various positions with Emporium and Famous–Barr, a May Department Stores company.

Susan has served on the board of Directors of Regis Corporation since 1995. A native of Philadelphia, she is a graduate of Randolph–Macon Woman’s College and holds a master's degree in education from Washington University. 

Susan’s favorite office product is Post–it® notes.

Christine Komola,
Senior Vice President, Corporate Controller
Christine Komola

Christine is Staples’ Senior Vice President, Corporate Controller, responsible for the company’s financial operations including controls and reporting worldwide.

She previously served as Senior Vice President, General Merchandise Manager, Furniture & Wholesaler, from 2002 to 2004. In this role, she was responsible for supplier relationships, marketing programs and merchandise assortments for Staples Retail and Delivery businesses. Christine played a key role in developing and launching the Summit Supply Chain project, resulting in significant process and cost efficiencies.

Christine joined Staples in 1997 as Director, General Accounting, and was quickly promoted to Vice President, Planning and Control. In 1999, she served two years as the senior financial executive for the Staples.com business, and then served as Vice President, General Merchandise Manager, Furniture & Wholesaler.

Prior to joining Staples, Christine was an audit manager at Ernst & Young, LLP. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Born in New Rochelle, New York, Christine graduated from Miami University in Ohio with a bachelor of science in business administration.

Brian T. Light,
Executive Vice President & Chief Information Officer
Brian T. Light

Brian is the Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Staples, responsible for the information systems supporting the company’s home office, U.S. retail and North American delivery operations.  He was appointed to his current position in November 2005.  From 2002 to 2005, Brian was Executive Vice President, Business Delivery for Staples, leading the catalog and e–commerce business in the U.S. and Canada.  He also led Staples’ New Business Development organization, identifying growth vehicles and partnership opportunities.  Brian joined Staples in 1998 as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer.

Before joining Staples, Brian served as an associate partner in the Los Angeles office of Accenture. He was a leader in Accenture’s Food & Consumer Packaged Goods practice, and evaluated information systems and processes for several Fortune 500 companies. He began his career there in 1986.

Brian sits on the Board of Directors at Borders Group, Inc. Born and raised in California, he graduated from the University of California at Irvine.    

Brian’s favorite office product is his HP all–in–one printer.

John J. Mahoney,
Vice Chairman & Chief Financial Officer
John J. Mahoney

John is Staples' Vice Chairman and Chief Financial Officer responsible for all of the company’s financial operations, investor relations, information systems, and strategy. He joined Staples in 1996 as Chief Financial Officer, was named Chief Administrative Officer in 1997 and was named Vice Chairman in January 2006.

Before joining Staples, John was a partner with the accounting firm of Ernst & Young where he worked for 20 years, including service in the firm’s National Office Accounting and Auditing group. 

He serves on the Board of Directors of Chico's FAS, Inc.

A native of Brighton, Massachusetts, John graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester Massachusetts and has his MBA from Northeastern University.

Steve Matyas,
President, Staples Business Depot
Steve Matyas

Steve is President of The Business Depot, LTD, which operates as Staples Business Depot throughout Canada, and as Bureau en Gros in the province of Quebec. He has been with the company since it was founded in 1991.  Previously, he served as Vice President, Sales and Operations and as Vice President, Operations, Human Resources and Store Planning.

Before joining Staples, he was Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Koffler and Associates where he was responsible for the operation of a chain of greeting card and stationery stores. Steve also worked in a variety of leadership positions at Superpharm Ltd and Shoppers Drug Mart Ltd, franchise pharmacy chains.  Steve began his professional career with Abbott Laboratories in sales.

Steve is currently Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Retail Council of Canada, a Director of EPCOR Utilities Inc., K–Bro Linen Income Trust Fund, and sits on the Advisory Committee of the School of Retail Management at Ryerson University in Toronto. 

Steve was born in Europe and raised in Windsor, Ontario. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in genetics from the University of Toronto.

Larry Morse,
President, Quill Corp.
Larry Morse
Larry Morse is President of Quill Corporation, a direct marketer of office products acquired by Staples in 1998. He was named President in 2000, replacing Quill’s founder, Jack Miller. Larry is a 19–year veteran of Quill.  Previously, he served as Senior Vice President of Operations and Director of Distribution.

Before joining Quill in 1987, Larry worked at American Hospital Supply Corporation. He also served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy.

Born and raised in Massachusetts, Larry has an undergraduate degree from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts and earned his MBA from Boston College.

Demos Parneros,
President, U.S. Stores
Demos Parneros

Demos is Staples' President of U.S. Stores, responsible for retail operations throughout the United States. Before being named President of U.S. Stores in 2002, he served in a wide variety of positions in the retail organization including, Human Resources, Marketing, Merchandising and Store Operations. In 1997, he was named Senior Vice President responsible for all stores in the Mid–Atlantic and Southern U.S.  Demos joined Staples as a General Manager in 1987 and opened the first Staples store in New York City.

Demos began his retail career as a management trainee in Macy’s New York division.
 Born in Cyprus, he was raised in Queens, New York. Demos graduated from New York University.

Demos’ favorite office product is the Staples Ultra–Quiet Shredder.

Patrick Seghin,
President, Staples European Catalog
Patrick Seghin

Patrick is the President of Staples’ delivery business in Europe, responsible for nine different delivery operations that serve customers in 15 European countries. Previously, Patrick served as Managing Director of Staples’ stores in Germany.  He joined Staples in 2000 as Vice President of Marketing for Staples European Retail.

Before Staples, Patrick worked at Shell Europe in marketing and brand management, serving in a variety of roles and in several different countries. His last position at Shell was as Director of Marketing Planning, Shell Retail Europe.

Patrick graduated with great honors from Université Catholique de Louvain, Institut d’Administration et de Gestion, Ingenieur commercial.  He has also studied international marketing at INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France; and in the CEE Exchange Program at Erasmus Universiteit, Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Patrick’s favorite office product is the Staples® brand green highlighter.

Theo van Brandenburg,
President, Staples European Retail
Theo van Brandenburg

Theo is President of Staples European Retail Operations responsible for all stores in Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal and the United Kingdom. He is also Managing Director of Office Centre, Staples' cash and carry membership stores. Theo joined Staples in 1999 when the company acquired Office Centre.

Prior to the acquisition Theo served as
 Managing Director for Maxis hypermarkets as well as Office Centre. He co founded the Office Centre concept for Makro, the European wholesale giant, in 1989. Theo began his career with Makro in 1978 serving as Merchandise Director, General Manager and as a member of the corporate staff responsible for business development and new market entries. Before joining Makro, he was a Product Group Manager for B.P. Nutrician. Theo began his career in retailing as a store manager with the De Gruyter Supermarket chain.

Born in Arnhem, the Netherlands, Theo graduated from Tilburg University with a master's degree in marketing.
