Dorm

There are three things you can count on at college: early classes, sharing a bathroom and a dorm room that doesn't offer much space. While the first two are tough to avoid, we've got you covered on the third.

From storage solutions to shower caddies, we've got everything you need to create the perfect home away from home.

Keep it clean!
Easy ways to freshen up your dorm room.

Like to be green? Look for eco-conscious cleaning supplies.

Even though you'll be moving out of the house, you still have to keep it clean (we're talking about your dorm room). And you'll have to go it alone because there won't be anyone to help clean up after you. Fortunately, we've got you covered with all the cleaning supplies you need to make it super easy. And with these tips, you won't be wasting all your time cleaning when you could be studying — or partying!

Dealing with smells

You'll definitely be dealing with smells. Either your roommate's feet, old stinky laundry or — well, you get the idea. Choose from a range of air freshener scents to keep things smelling sweet.

Cleaning up spills

Good old paper towels and all-purpose cleaners are the easiest and the quickest. Wipes will come in handy too. Like to be green? Look for eco-conscious cleaning supplies.

The danger of dust

Dust doesn't seem like a big deal, but this is something that piles up if you don't pay attention to it. And it hangs in the air, causing sneezing and — it gets worse — snoring. Stock up on simple dusting rags or pick up a powerful little handheld vacuum.

Laundry, laundry, laundry

You'll be doing a lot of laundry a lot of the time. Bring detergent and stain remover, and the #1 secret weapon: a laundry pen or permanent marker. Write your initials inside your favorite sweatshirt and pair of jeans so you won't have to worry about losing them in that massive pile in your dorm laundry room. You'll thank us later.

Little room. Lots of personality.
How to make the most of your tiny dorm room.

Desk collections and organizers will keep your desktop looking neat — even if you're messy.

Great things come in small packages. You know that dorm room that's the size of a closet? It's a great thing waiting to happen! We've got all the dorm room essentials you need to personalize that little gray cinder block space. Here are some tried-and-true tips for bringing lots of personality into a little room:

  • You'll be spending a lot of time at your desk, and desks can be surprisingly affordable. So consider bringing your own mobile desk or at least a laptop cart. You can take these with you when you study in your friend's rooms. Bonus: these desks or carts are actually stylish, unlike standard dorm furniture. For those sleepy nights (or mornings) spent studying in bed, you should also get a lap desk.
  • Desk collections and organizers will keep your desktop looking neat — even if you're messy. You might want file sorters, files and pencil cups too.
  • Make sure your desk lamp expresses your personality—and see if it can even motivate you in your studies. If you're a business major, for example, get a banker's lamp.
  • A bean bag chair is a must. If you want to make fast friends with your roommate, bring two. You won't miss that comfy sofa at home if you're chilling out on these, and they're easily stowed away.
  • Bring lots of frames for pictures. Create a happy environment for yourself, and show your roommate a slice of life back home. Don't forget digital frames for your latest digital photos.
  • With the sweet smell of popcorn wafting out of your door, your room will definitely be a popular one. Bring a microwave and load up on popcorn!
