We ordered three of these shelves recently. I was a little wary because of some of the other reviews here, but I was very happy with all three that I got. [...] They were very easy to assemble and after nailing the backing on they were quite sturdy. The non-finished top is a little annoying, but no one sees it once the shelf is put together.

For the price you can't beat it! I bought 2 to store books and craft supplies. I was careful to stay within suggested weight limits for each shelf and so far no problems. You do have to be careful with edges of shelving - they are very sharp and because it's not real wood the finish can chip easily. Assembly was easy and shelves line up perfectly and strait and square. NICE.

I love these bookcases. I had been shopping at other stores and not only was similar merchandise twice as much, but the delivery charges were outrageous.
The bookcases look well, and although they do have sharp edges, the edging does not impact on the look or function.
I bought six of these to organize my home library, I think I'll get a few more and organize my home office.

We ordered two of these shelves and the first had been damaged in shipping - one of the vertical panels had cracked. A quick look through the instructions revealed a phone number and website where I could request a free replacement shipped for free as well. Arrived two days later in good shape. The customer service wasn't through Staples, but instead through the manufacturer. I really like this feature and wish more companies would use it. Even though this is a standard particle board shelf, just getting a replacement that quickly was worth it.

The bookcase was easy to put together. Didn't even need the instructions. Holds a lot of books and is very sturdy. My only complaint is that the very top of the bookcase is unfinished. No big deal on this one, since it's 6 feet high and I'm not tall enough to see it, but it did disappoint me a little.

Practical, neat, and definately cheap, shelving for a home office. The upper edges are unfinished, which was disappointing, but at a height of 72" we don't see them. I would not consider them for our home library, but for the home office, they meet the needs for which they were purchased.

After reading the other reviews I was afraid to buy this bookcase but after pricing out the wood to build some and comparing shelving units at other stores, we ordered 3 to give it a shot.Took no time to put together and yes it seems fragile but hey it's a lot (A LOT) cheaper than any other plan I could come up with. My only complaint is the cheesy backboard-YUK!You need it on to keep the unit sturdy.Just think though, your going to put stuff in front of it so you won't see too much of it! We are keeping it off and mounting the units to the wall for support. These still look good and work well

[...] Quality is VERY POOR, unfinished edges, lip overhangs (not aligned properly), and the holes are not drilled properly for attaching the shelves (you have to pop through the filler wood with the screws).I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT. Spend a little more and go somewhere other than Staples to get your office furniture. They do not take care to ensure what they sell you is quality or is undamaged.VERY DISSATISFIED.

I'm value driven, and realizing there is a trade-off between price and quality I still thought this item seemed a good compromise for storing my book collection in a spare room. After two shipments of damaged product (busted corners, scarred edges, broken sides) the bookcase I eventually kept was just marginally acceptable - mashed corners and scraped edges. It uses rotating cams (here made of plastic) like most user-assembled casegoods, but 4 of the 6 holes were improperly drilled, doubling my assembly time. The box says the item is made in the U.S., and I really wanted to recommend it, but cannot. The packaging and manufacturing engineers at 'Situations' should be fired if the company hopes to compete at this price point. If you can afford the time to shop garage sales and thrift stores, you'll get a better used bookcase for the price than this one, even when it's on sale. If you need one in three days, and can tolerate several cosmetic (and potentially structural) defects, this could be an OK purchase. [...]

If you're looking for decent-looking functionality at a great price, this is the right choice. If you're looking for great quality, it probably isn't and you should spend a little more money. It's the old adage, "you get what you pay for." As for the veneer chipping, I just touch it up with a reddish-brown felt-tip marker and it looks great. I'm a very "picky" person, and if they weren't good enough, they'd go right back to the store [...]. But for the price, I would recommend this product as a great value. I bought 3 of them and am very pleased. They match my other cherry office furniture quite well also.
