Not Very Impressed
By Bob the tech GuyVerified Reviewer from Boston, MA on 7/29/2008
Pros:
Fire Resistant, Spacious Interior, Water Resistant
Cons:
Hard To Operate, Large Footprint
Best Uses:
Cash, Documents, Valuables
Describe Yourself:
Quality Oriented
Primary use:
Business

While this does suit my purposes, for close to $300, this safe should be great. It's not. It's ok. The instructions are weak. I have owned it just a couple days and already I am seeing that you often need to enter the combo twice to get in. The handle feels cheap and loose. I want this more for fire/water saftey than security. I feel like it someone really wanted to get in, they could. Overall, I probably won't ever buy anything for Sentry again.

Safe is safe, However......

Bottom Line:

As I enetered before this is an excellent product however the hinge design needs to be strengthened so the door does not fall off. We use this safe every day(in and out 5 or more times a day). The small footprint is the perfect size for our office space and the price is within our budget.

Poorly made - defects

We experienced problems with this safe from the start. Sometimes it would open easily; other times it wouldn't open for several tries.

We thought it was a battery issue but finally realized there must be a defect when it didn't open at all one day with new batteries.

Called Sentry customer service and they sent a new battery pack to try - but this didn't work. Finally they told us to hit it with a hammer (no joke) to get it to open!! (something about an internal mechanism that sticks???)

We took everything out and they just had us cut the keypad off and return this with the keys.

They sent a new safe and it didn't open at all when we got it.

Called Sentry and they agreed to just refund our money (it was just under the one year warranty period). They didn't even want either of the safes back...we have to dispose of them!

The driver who delivered the second one said they have a warehouse full of old/bad safes!!! Recommend finding another company to buy from...these are not well made!

This are only good for fires.

Cons:
Not Secure, Robbers got into it easy, We were robbed and it too

We were robbed and they found the safe and got it open very easily. I lost all my jewerly that was inside and it was quite easily pried open with a crowbar or force. What is point of a safe that can be opened that easily. I suppose if you just put documents in there for safety in a fire. But do not buy this or this line of safes for keeping valuables inside. Our robbers were pretty low end and they popped this open no problem. I wish I could get my money back as I lost everything inside. Awful product.

Staples Response: This model is UL rated to provide protection for your valuables in the event of a fire or water damage.  While this model has an electronic lock, (4) locking bolts, and can be bolted down to deter theft, it is not burglary rated. We apologize for any confusion.
