Well I read the reviews and was ready to do it myself. Staples was great[...] Be ready to have someone to help carry the box. I'm a strong guy but this thing was heavy! Took me about 3hrs to put together, power drill is a must! Instructions were good, just take your time. I'm happy with the purchase and the price.

I use this desk daily - working from home. The size of the desk is perfect for the corner of my smallish office (approx 10'x10'). Like others have said, the finished surfaces scratch easily so be careful during assembly. I bought this desk sight unseen and wish it had a false drawer front for the keyboard tray like other similar bush desk models. The CPU space is wasted because I have a laptop, but the desk surface is more than ample for my laptop with docking station, huge (22") external flat screen monitor, printer unit, and space to spread out papers.

Installation was not difficult but it took a while to assemble. I used a battery-powered screwdriver and that really helped speed things along. The instructions look intimidating because they are long and there are about 14 million parts but everything is labeled - and each page of the instructions has you do pretty much one small step at a time.

Bought this desk to replace the one Santa brought my son 25 years ago and which I inherited. I am using it in a 2nd bedroom office and absolutely LOVE it. There is ample storage even without the hutch and plenty of work space, yet it takes up much less floor area than I anticipated. I agree the assembly was time consuming and a second pair of hands would be handy but certainly not necessary. I am a 58-year-old woman and assembled this by myself over a long weekend. I recommend a rechargeable screwdriver and mallet, and maybe some extra carpenter's glue (guess I applied a little heavily)! The instructions could be enhanced by some verbiage in a few critical areas such as direction of the keyboard rails (I initially installed them backwards) and how to operate the cams (hint: +/- faces the peg you intend to insert; once inserted, turn the cam clockwise a half turn to lock). My only disappointment was the cardboard backing on the CPU storage compartment, as this is the side I chose to have facing outward into the room, but I hid it with a trailing plant on the corner of the desk. My mother loved the desk so much she ordered one for herself (bad luck for my Dad!)

Not too difficult to assemble. Very time consuming. Took almost 5 hours to assemble-and that's only the desk part. I'm assembling the hutch tomorrow. It does look really nice. My wife is very picky and she likes it. The only problem I had/have is that the door on the right side of the desk doesn't quite line-up perfectly. It closes fine, just looks a tad off. You get what you pay for I suppose.

I wish I had listened to the other negative reviews. This desk fits our work area perfectly, but when opened many of the pieces had corners chipped, with the particle board showing. Some of the pieces were in really poor condition. If this kind of damage occurs in shipping, I can't imagine what normal wear and tear would do. [...]

I like the way this looks. It has a nice dark look to it. I do not like the space for the CPU storage. We do not put our CPU tower there, because it gets too hot. Now this is just wasted space and would be better served if it were drawers.

This is a very sturdy desk. The assembly was not difficult once you figured out the assembly instructions. Most of the connecting pieces are held together with cams. I think that there were only two wooden dowel and glue sections. These were supported with cams also. The cabinets and drawers can all be adjusted if it is not aligned correctly. You just have to look at the pictures to understand how to adjust them.

I must say that we looked absolutely everywhere for a desk that was both asthetically appealing and functional. Allow me to save you the time . . . Just buy this desk with the hutch! We bought two of these desks with hutches and placed the desks on the same wall with L sections facing each other. It looks fantastic and is very functional. This is the ONLY assembly required furniture that I still loved after assembly, because of its sturdy construction. The finish does scratch easily if you are not careful, but that is true with almost any laminate finish.

It was very overwhelming opening the box and seeing the many many many pieces to put together, and even more overwhelming opening the hardware.Once we cleared an area and got out my drill, my wife read the directions and she lined up my pieces as I did the work. Team effort we got it done in a couple hours. Once together it looked great, however I noticed how easily it scratches when I turned my toolbox around and it left a big scratch... As I said though, it looks great. It is VERY sturdy (the desk it replaced wobble when you pushed it, this one is very sturdy) It has enough surface area for me. I'm just very concerned about the finish. I may go to a paint store and ask them if there's a way to put on a couple layers of clear coat or something to protect it more. With everything in mind, and the fact that I got it on sale [...] I'd say I got a great deal. Just gotta be careful with it.

I had no problem putting the desk together. I found the pictures in the instructions very easy to understand, however once I put it together I relized how badly made this desk is. I would not call the finish of the desk "Durable" in any way, shape, or form. Any use of the desk causes scratches, and nicks in the surface of the "laminate" which is actually paper thin! I put a piece of Scotch tape on the edge of the door, to keep my toddler out of the computer tower section, and it actually RIPPED the paper surface off of the desk apon removal. Sliding the computer into the compartment resulted in scratching and gouging the desk. The desk does look great, as long as you never use it. It will not stand up to any normal wear and tear. (no pun intended!)I did not expect the desk to be solid wood, but I did expect a sturdy wood laminate, and that is not what it is made of. [...] I would recomend Staples highly, just not this desk.

This desk rocks. Once it's together, it looks really good. It is extremly sturdy and dosen't feel like an assembly desk. I know that some of the reviews here state that the instructions aren't very good, but I'm not sure what they are talking about. Every piece was labled and the instructions were very detailed. With that said, it still took myself and a helper about 6 hours to put together the desk(3h), hutch(1 1/2h), and lateral file(1 1/2h). All and all I am very happy with this set. It looks great and should last awile

I was a little bit timid to order this desk after reading the reviews. Everyone stressed how hard it was to assemble. I ordered it irregardless of the previous reviews, good for me! Me( mom ) and my 12 year old son assembled this within 2 hours and it only took that long cause we breaked to eat dinner. i don't know why it was such a task for others buyers but i think it was a breeze. It looks great in my home office and i will be ordering the matching pieces!

This was a great value; very nice desk for a reasonable price.
I was trepidatious about the installation after reading negetive reviews about difficulty in this area, however, after putting it together last night, I found it to be very smooth and easy. The illustrations were clear and easy to follow. From the time I brought it in the house to the moment I completed the last step came to just under 3 1/2 hours. All the parts and pieces were clearly labeled and well organized. All the parts were well packaged and they were easy to take out and there was no damage or scratches on any of the pieces.
It is a sturdy desk that should last me a very long time.

Where do I begin...well i will start by saying this desk took me approx. 7 hours to assemble! I am mechanically inclined but due to poor instructions, unlabeled parts and some missing parts (screws) I needed to improvise in order to complete the project. Once it was completed I can say that I am pleased with the finished product for the price. Surely a manufacturer problem not that of staples. Overall, good finished product, just be aware of the lack of written instructions and prepare for an assembly nightmare. Good luck.

This product did take a while to set up, but it was well worth the work. The collection of the desk, hutch and lateral file transformed our office furntiture into a classy, stylish, sophisticated office. Plenty of storage and filing room with the lateral file. Be patient with the setup, read diagrams carefully, lay everything out, and be careful with the surfaces of the pieces being that they may scratch easily. Great looking furniture for the price!

When I purchased this product, it was very hard to figure out what I was going to get since the web doesn't properly described it. When I got it, it was horrid. There was damage to the laminate on several surfaces, a drawer wall was broken, and the keyboard railings were bent. Putting it together was a nightmare. The instructions have no explanation, just some pictures where you have to guess what they mean. Its not made of solid wood, and you can easily damage it upon asembly if you arent really careful. But the overall worst part is the instruction manual. You have to guess most of the stuff that its in it because they have no words to explain what you need to do, just pictures. Have fun putting it together if you buy this.

After my initial excitement about the functionality of the product came disappointment. It is quite narrow (depth), the CPU storage causes overheating of my CPU and the fan to turn on all the time, and a lack of decent sized, functional drawers are a problem for me. The laminate is paper thin as well and scratches very easily. Good price though- LOL.

Couldn't decide on what to buy[...]. We were shopping higher end products for months and couldn't choose. We liked the way these looked and the compactness of them allowed us to put two in our computer room. We like the work space they provide. One thing we didn't like (or realize) is that we couldn't switch the right and left handedness of them. The backing for the hutches is cheesy cardboard that matches the finish rather well - Easy enough to replace with heavier thin plywood covered in cork for a bulletin board. The keyboard tray is too small to hold our keyboards and mice but again - easy enough to add more shelf or replace with a bigger board to make room for both. The desks and hutches went together easily enough and without much issue. We did go slowly and it took us an entire afternoon and evening to put two desks and two hutches together.

I bought this two weeks ago on sale and very satisfied with this product. It's best for small offices and family rooms/basements. I have this in lower family room. Things like about it : large writing space, I have two 19inch displays on this table and still have enough workplace. Small cabinet and drawer is an attaractive feature with a room to place your mid-tower computer case. Things I don't like : No integrated cord system, key board tray wobbles and hard to move, may be I need to fix it later. wood finishing can be easily damage. But over all this is the best L-shape for the price I paid for this on sale and I know I could not get it better anywhere for this price. Two thumbs up!!!

Set up was a pain, although most desks will be. The drawers are terrible. They catch and clank all the time. This is a plywood desk with fake wood covering which looks great until you get fingerprints or smudges on it. And it does not clean well at all. You get what you pay for. It is probably ok for home but I wouldn't recommend it for business use.

Before purchasing this item I read all of the other reviews and found that they were pretty reasaonable. I wasn't sure what the the texture of the wood would be like, but when I saw it, it was absolutely beautiful. I have it setup in my bedroom and it takes up absolutely no room being that it's an L-shape desk. I also purchased the hutch and I can't be happier. I would recommend it to everyone. My boyfriend took his time to read over the instruction carefully and it was simple. The only problem that he found was that the actual bags of nails should've been numbered along with the letters on each piece of wood. I recommend you buy, but wait for a bargain sale. Enjoy.

Great for small home office
By Ken H.Verified Purchaser from Spokane, wa. on 9/29/2007
Pros:
Attractive Design, Easy To Setup, Smooth Writing Surface, Sturdy Construction
Cons:
Air circulation-heats up, Pc storage needs more
Best Uses:
Smaller Offices
Describe Yourself:

Primary use:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This desk is perfect for those looking for a nice office desk at a real reasonable price. [...] My only complaint would be that the pc storage space has little ventrilation causing my computer to get pretty hot at times. Problem is easily resolved by either leaving door open or drilling a few holes in the side (by where your feet go). I am real happy with the desk though and would not consider that a real issue. Set-up was easy to follow and the cams felt real solid and secure.

Elegant and Reasonbly Priced!

This is a beautiful desk once put together. Elegance at a low price! The instructions are only pictoral with no explainations for the literate unfortunately. The computer section doesn't have enough ventilation, door needs to be kept open while computer is running or it will get too hot inside. There should be a few more vent holes on the inside panel under the desk area for the computer to circulate the heat out or a gap between the desk top and the inside panel of the computer compartment. Interior of the drawer above the computer heats up as well..do NOT keep any chocolates in this drawer! Otherwise it's a beautiful desk and perfect for that elegant office decor! Very roomy, I have a computer monitor, laptop, lamp, telephone, desk accessories and even a small LCD TV with enough left over room for files and writing!

I purchased this desk to replace my old light wood grain desk that was from college. My office is the first room you see when you walk in the house so I wanted something that wouldn't embaress my wife. It dresses up the room and my wife is pleased with it's look. I also purchased the hutch and extra drawer to match. I was disappointed they didn't have a matching bookcase.

The only thing I'm not happy with is the wood can be scratched easier than I like. It's not bad but you need to be careful when putting heavy tools on the desk (when building). Other than that I would buy this product or sister products without hesitation.

I absolutely love this piece. For the price, it looks good and quite sturdy. All the drawers and doors work fine. One piece of the desk was damaged (not sure if I did), however Bush sent out a replace piece immediately at no charge. Good buy for the price and I got on sale with coupon!!!

I bought this for my home office. I thought the color would be more of a cherry, but it was an UGLY BROWN CHEAP COLOR. Keyboard tray doesn't glide smoothly, so when I called Bush's website,I found it's also available in a prettier, lighter cherry color, but I can't find it anywhere. This website, competitor's websites, even Bush's website doesn't show the color. TOOK MY HUSBAND 3 HOURS TO PUT IT TOGETHER, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE OUT OF THE 4 OTHER RATINGS THIS DESK HAS GOTTEN, HE PUT IT TOGETHER THE FASTEST. BUT...he said it was a pain in the you know what!

This fits perfectly in my office space, which is a fourth bedroom of my house.
The construction is time taking and little hard. It took me almost 10 Hours to fix all three pieces. Desk + Hutch + Lateral File.

I guess I wasn't smart enough to realize the distance along the side attachment also included part of the main desk too, so the unit was actually smaller than what I thought. I didn't have as much working space as I had hoped to have. I would recommend only if the person could live with the shorter side panel.

It's nice, I would recommend. the piece speaks for itself. Just have to buy extra office accessories to prevent damage to surfaces. Glad I got it when it was marked down.

This is a good desk for the price. It looks attractive. It was a bit of a task to set up -- took me about 4-5 hours, but I'm sure many could do it faster than me. Something happened to not make the desk level so the small drawer doesn't sit exactly right. Maybe I can fix it, but I'm going to leave it for now.
