These little things are divine! I must have 10 or 12 of them about the house: 1 on my desk, one on the mail table, and so forth. But where it really comes in handy is in the kitchen! You wouldn't believe how useful these things are for snapping open protective seals, slicing open plastic bags, and so forth. I attached one to my knife block with a bit of Velcro, so it's always handy right where I usually grab cutting utensils. LOVE them!

I use these daily and it seems they became dull pretty fast. Paper is hard on a blade I understand but the envelopes didn't take long to start jamming in the crevis. I'd like to find something that lasts longer. Otherwise these are given away at expos and freebies all the time. I will certainly look for the free ones I don't mind throwing away when they stop performing.

Opening letters with my index finger has never been viable for me because paper cuts HURT. When the letter opener I'd used for literally years broke at the handle, desperation ensued. These little blue plastic things get the job done.

I use it for anything that needs to be opened,including shipping tape on boxes, purchases that arrive in plastic bags - it nice because you know that you are not cutting into the items inside of the packages. I never buy only one packet, I keep a backup - it's easy to do because they are inexpensive, quality for the cost. When opening envelopes, don't insert too deeply into the envelope, it causes the paper to bunch up or get stuck in the blade.

A better letter opener has been built! It does not fit inside a couch as readily as the one I despaired of finding and therefore bought the new kind. The old did well for King Arthur but had to be dulled for home use. The new blade is even sharper, but encased safely inside a little blue whale that holds it at the best angle to slash right along the edge and out the other end in one stroke with no chewing, guided by a proboscis that fits right into the little corner of the flap that never gets licked.

MOST OTHER LETTER OPENERS BREAK VERY EASILY WHEN OPENING LETTERS OR PACKAGES. THIS ONE IS VERY DURABLE AND STURDY. IT HAS A NICE SHARP BLADE.
