very weak motor, have to finesse the pressure of the pencil in it to keep it from stopping even with new batteries. About half the pencils come out either unevenly sharpened or with broken leads.

Will not sharpen, sluggish movement that usually comes to a complete standstill when pencil is inserted. Batteries were replaced twice and still no improvement.

The design is sharp enough to feature on a desk. But the battery power lacks and if it's usage is often, look elsewhere. Otherwise, it gets the job done if you have the patience.

I keep this on my desk so I don't have to walk over to wall-mounted manual sharpener frequently. It's noisy & not very efficient, though.

After reading a positive review in the AJC about this sharpener, we purchased one for our home use. It only worked well for about a week. We have tried recharging batteries several times to see if the batteries were an issue, but the sharpener will not work. We wouldn't recommend purchasing this particular model.

This pencil sharpener was the medium priced mdl and I thought that it would do the trick because it looked sturdy and sleek. Was I wrong. This unit does not sharpen easily if you have a broken point or a new pencil to sharpen. It is cumbersome to use and gerky. If you are just touching up a point it works fine.

Don't expect to sharpen a whole box of new pencils with this. This battery-powered sharpener is for occasional use only. But, you will likely find the high-end sharpeners are more than twice as expensive.

Apparently design flaw. Batteries were very tight and did not make connection.
For just a few more dollars, invest in an electric sharpener. This one is difficult to use, doesn't create a nice point and just takes too long trying. Wish I could take it back!

I loved the last Staples battery-operated pencil sharpner I bought. It worked great for 4 years and cost under $10.00. This one has a lot of difficultly sharpening a standard pencil even with brand new batteries.

Used for home use. The power is poor and if you push your pencil in too far the sharpener doesn't work. You have to use it gingerly. Would not recommend this battery operated sharpener.

THis unit is too big but I needed one right away. Your store had no other choices so I bought it for a one time use. As a desktop or office unit I would rate it 5 stars. Operation is good and quality is good. MY ONLY PROBLEM WAS SIZE.....[@]

Looks great and works most of the time - but if your pencil lead breaks below the tip of the wood it's very hard to get the sharpener to work without constantly having to stop and readjust the alignment. It's fine for quick touchups to blunt pencils but I wouldn't use it regularly for "heavy duty" sharpening.

I purchased this to keep on my desk, instead of using the general office sharpener. Although it does not sharpen evenly around the pencil, it does sharpen. For the light duty I give it, it does exactly what I expect it to do.

The unit looks nice, but is is very weak. It barely has the power to do what it is supposed to bo, sharpen a pencil. It takes a long time to get the pencil in just right so that it will start.

Even sharpening one of your standard #2 pencils it stalls if you don't feed it very carefully and slowly.

The price is attractive, but the sharpening is less reliable and weaker than other brands. These sharpeners are OK for moderate home use. Wouldn't expect them to perform well in classroom or office.

I use this sharpener on colored pencils, drawing pencils, and watercolor pencils. That can make for hard use. I have to be careful about getting the pencil straight in the opening, but if I do that, it works okay. It may be a bit underpowered, but I may also need to get new batteries. And for home use, it wouldn't be worthwhile to pay more.

It worked ok with new batts but after a few uses started getting weak. Replaced batts and now doesn't evenly sharpen. I have 20 Ticondaroga pencils with half-lead/half-wood tips??!!! I hate this sharpener!

We ordered 2 for the office. Several attempts of trying to get it to work, we thought maybe it just needed fresh batteries, but even then it was very unreliable and quit working very quickly. If someone else has been happy with this product, they must have gotten the one well-made sharpener out of hundreds. Don't waste your money.
this sharpener has been critized but it's actually quite good. Sharpens to perfect point. Really nice design too.

It just doesn't have enough power to perform well.If pencil is not held inperfect position, it will not sharpen.
I bought this for myself and my son to use and I'm the only one who can get it to work. Even then it shapens only to 1 side of the pencil and leaves wood on the other side. I do not recomend wasting you money on this.

I bought this for my daughter to SAVE time in sharpening pencils, but this is the worst [$]I ever spent! It sharpens part way on one side, so you have to keep adjusting the pencil and it uses so much of the pencil before you get any reasonable point. Because it does not sharpen easily, you don't get much good use before you have to try all over again. Awful! I'd demand a refund if I had the time.

I bought 3 of these units and all of them either worked horribly or not at all. This product needs to be pulled from the website and the shelves. It is not like [@] to carry this bad of a product. I am usually quite happy with a staples brand product.

I just purchased 5 of these sharpeners thinking that I could take one to work, one to Sunday school for my second grade class, and one for each of my children. I just opened one up today and was disappointed to find out how hard it was to get my pencils sharpened. I thought that maybe I had a faulty one, but I think that this product is just not powerful enough to handle the job.

You have to hold it at a certain angle in order for it to sharpen and that still took way too long to sharpen. All battery operated sharpers suck!

I got this one to have one power cord less on the desk. Unfortunately, the battery powered motor seems too weak for frequent use. Now I think a classical hand crank would have looked nicer and done a better job.

Ok for occasional use. A regular, old fashioned hand cranked sharpener would work a lot better. Electric one tends to munch up pencils unevenly.
