It is a high quality pencil sharpener. I teach second grade and have to replace electric sharpeners each year. This one has been excellent, even when the kids try to sharpen a new pencil down to two inches. It was a little expensive and I recently discovered it elsewhere cheaper, but overall I'm happy.

This product did not deliver as advertised.I tried sharpening several brands of #2 pencils and all came out of the sharpener uneven and useless to write with. I also tried to sharpen several chunky pencils and had the same results.

I am very disappointed with this product. For the hefty price tag I expected better quality and a dependable pencil sharpener.

I am a third grade teacher so about 100 pencils are sharpened every day in this new sharpener. Last year I went through three electric pencil sharpeners in the first two months. This was seems to be much studier and durable. It was expensive around [$], but I spent over $60.00 purchasing three last year. I believe this sharpener was definitely worth the money and I hope it continues to be as durable throughout the year.

I am a ceramic tile installer and take a large quantity of pencils with me on every job. It improves my efficiency if I don't have to stop frequently to sharpen the same pencil over and over...I can just grab another one from the pencil box. The X-ACTO School Pro 1670 Electric Pencil Sharpener by Boston allows me to quietly sharpen all those pencils while I'm at home in a fraction of the time it used to take to prepare for my next job.

The sharpeners falls over easily, and the container to hold the pencil shavings does not fit tightly so that the shaving spray out. It sharpens the pencils unevenly so that one side has wood, the other lead. It was recommended for school use, and it does not seem that it will hold up for even one school year. At the price, I was expecting something that would last through several years.

I have bought 3 of these sharpeners. The first worked great and for a decent amount of time, though not as long as you would expect for a self-titled classroom sharpener. It claims it is able to handle high volume and heavy duty use, not true! The second and third sharpeners I bought both broke immediately. The third stopped working properly literally after I sharpened the first pencil. Do not buy this product. It is not worth the money or the effort to repeatedly return it. At least staples is a good retailer, and took it back no problem!

I have bought 2 or 3 cheaper models and they don't make it through a month of sharpening.

This one is fast and is great because of the different size pencils it accepts.

One complaint I have is that the pencils are not completely smooth when they come out. I don't know if it's the quality of the pencils or the sharpener. But other than this, it delivers what it advertizes.

Great Product
By Mrs. WarrenVerified Purchaser from San Francisco, CA on 9/3/2008
Cons:
Breaks Easily
Best Uses:
Everyday Use, Improving Production, School

This is the perfect sharpener for school use. It can handle a lot of sharpening without the motor burning out. I like how you can adjust the size of the pencil, so it works perfectly for the thick, yellow pencils that we use in my classroom. The only problem is that this is my third sharpener. Two separate times my students knocked it down and it dropped on the floor. Both times, the sharpener broke instantly. I guess I would say, put it in a place where it cannot fall! Overall, great product!

When we bought this machine at the beginning of the school year we were soooooo excited. It was new, sturdy, and a time-saver for the morning pencil sharpening task.

About 3 months later it died. I wonder what the life span is for these things. It says on the box for school use! We had to resort to the old fashioned manual one you mount on a cabinet.

At first I thought that I was paying too much, but it was a huge improvement over the last x-acto pencil sharpener I had bought. The rubber feet keep it affixed to whatever surface you have it on. The pencils are sharpened so fast that there is rarely a line at the pencil sharpener in my classroom anymore.

I would not buy this product!!! It over-sharpened the pencils and the leads kept falling out. You can imagine the problems that creates in a first grade classroom (i.e. saving pencil leads, throwing pencil leads, CONSTANTLY sharpening pencils, etc.). I was constantly having to give it to a friend for "repair" when it would stop working (i.e. the leads would get jammed inside and the sharpener was dull as a result, etc.). Then it started this loud clicking noise in order to sharpen pencils - which it did horribly. It was already a loud sharpener so this just added to the din created when pencils were sharpened. Before and after "repair" it sometimes wouldn't completely sharpen, the wood extended over the lead, and it began over sharpening. I kept trying to "repair" it because I just wanted to have something with which to finish the year (money is already tight as it is for us teachers)! My recommendation is to get a pencil sharpener that sharpens the regular size pencils WELL and just have the students use the manual sharpener for the kindergarten pencils.

I have used 3 of them in 3 years for a classroom of 20 young students for large learners pencils. It works great initially but usually wears down in 9 to 10 months and takes forever to sharpen one. 3 of them did not break down but it became useless being so slow to sharpen so I had to replace them every year. I wish you could somehow make it more durable.

As an elementary art teacher at a large public school, I need a pencil sharpener that will work on different sized pencils (beginner, standard and colored pencils), and it needs to work fast because I sharpen hundreds of pencils for my students in a week. This product delivers on both counts. It has stood up well to heavy use. Make sure you check it for quick sharpening: I did buy one that wasn't fast, and I brought it back and got one that was.

For years I have purchased electric pencil sharpeners to increase the efficiency in my elementary classroom. Most years I would end up buying more than 1, whether I restricted use to adults alone or allowed students to use it. Out of total frustration, as my class approached the state testing, I broke down and bought what seemed the best available at Staples. My expectations were not high. As soon as I used it, I realized that this sharpener was different! I pushed this sharpener as hard as anyone could and never had a problem. It never overheated. The speed at which pencils were sharpened and the large amount of sharpenings held saved me loads of time. I even allowed students to use it with no problems at all. The year ended with the sharpener still working! When I do need a new sharpener I will definitely buy this one again.

The first two sharpeners I bought were fabulous. They lasted several years in heavy classroom use. This year, my class has gone through 3 so far. 2 just stopped working one day . . . ran and ran but didn't sharpen. The 3rd has been breaking their points just below the wood (so it falls out when they write) for a couple of months and today is just stopped sharpening completely. I bought another one that only I use and it is starting to break the points now (after 3 weeks of use). Don't waste your money!

As of a week ago (barely two months later), it stopped sharpening. The motor still works and the blade(s) turn, but even after 20-30 seconds of noisy operation, the pencil is still dull. I'm back to using my next-door colleague's sharpener myself after school every day. Maybe I just got a dud or something. But, I'm looking now for a better quality one that stands up to classroom use.

I am a 6th grade science teacher, and I tried pencil sharpener after pencil sharpener before finding one of these in a store. I was so excited for about 2 months it worked beautifully - colored pencils, regular pencils, 2 per class to 20 per class. Teachers would send kids to my room to let them sharpen their pencils (thanks. :P )Then it sort of broke. I say sort of, because my students figured out how to fix it. It involved bumping it against the table gently. It continued to work off and on like that for a while, until one day it ground to a halt. It makes a horrid grinding, whirring motor noise, but the blades are obviously not spinning. I wish I knew a good electrical engineer or small-machine mechanic...I hate the idea of wasting[$]on this bad boy.I am searching out another sharpener that will last at least a school year. The different sizes are a great idea but when I tried to sharpen large colored pencils- it didn't work. The pencils it did sharpen ended up becoming little stubs. A beaver would have done a better job!

This pencil sharpener works for our busy home with four kids! Our old pencil sharpener would "break down" when the pencil lead would break off in the unit, necessitating taking the entire unit apart to remove the pencil lead. This one stops running when the pencil is sharpened so you can't oversharpen. Love it!

The school wall mounted sharpners were not working for my classroom. The students sharpen 3 pencils every morning. They know by the sound of the sharpener when it's done. I've been using it since Aug. so far so good!!!!!!!!!!

Holding up to students in three different math classes. They are hard on everything and the sharpener still is running strong. Sometimes the students are too tough on it and a lead point breaks inside. Shake the sharpener and it dislodges. I recommend this product to teachers.

We live in a school district that still send to the classroom and endorses the hand crank pencil sharper that screw on the wall. This is a bad idea in the classroom especially when you have 20-25 students in the class room, lined up to sharpen their pencils in the morning. The students would spend 30 minutes in the morning just to sharpen pencils. This product is advertised as SCHOOL PRO that teachers endorsed, “SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR CLASSROOM USE. THE ONLY KID-TESTED, TEACHER-APPROVED ELECTRIC PENCIL SHARPENER” so I thought it would be a good idea for my daughter’s class, what a mistake.I bought 4 of them for second grade classes in the building, and kept one for my home, as when it is homework time we need pencils with 3 children in the house. They were all loud, would only work for 5 pencils then shut down for at least an hour, and after only 2 months of use they all completely broke one after another. When I gave out the pencil sharpeners I was hailed as a hero but when they broke I was scorned. I [...] got all new pencil sharpeners, but the replacements all broke within 2 months also. What I have learned from this experience is only buy a commercial grade sharpener for a class room, ask around, do research on what you are buying, read the reviews and believe them they bought it so that person would know. I had read bad reviews on this product, but I thought that person just got a bad one, but when it happened to me, I felt taken advantage of. I paid [$] each for the 5 I bought totaling [$] what an expensive lesson. If I could rate it a ZERO I would.

I purchased this item at another office supply store. I need a highly reliable electric pencil sharpener to sharpen many pencils. I do Sanctuary Care for our Church, and sharpened pencils in our pews are an appreciated necessity.
This sounded ideal in the clever advertisement.
Do not believe it. Heavy duty in a school with almost continuus use???? I could not get this ridiculous thing to sharpen one new pencil correctly, let alone many. A Teacher would be driven beserk, and a child can not make this thing sharpen a pencil I was foolish not to take it back. For years, this was a very trusted brand, but no more. I gave it to our After School Care.

This is my second School Pro---I thought I got a lemon the first time so I did an even exchange---the second one worked for about 10 pencils and completely died. It sounds horrible and simply won't sharpen. DO NOT BUY THIS SHARPENER!!!
