I bought this for our home and it is not worth the money that I spent on this. I am a single parent so money was an issue when deciding to purchase this sharpner and now I wish that I had spent a little more on one allot nicer. The motor sounds like it is ready to die each time I use it. And when it does decide to take off then it over sharpens the pencil to look like a spear that you would use to kill an animal.

I use this pencil sharpener in my classroom and it acts as if it is going to stop working at any moment. It is not a powerful sharpener like the box stated. I am very disappointed.

I use this in my classroom, students are not allowed to use it, so that could be why it has lasted the amount of time it has. I have been very happy with how sharp the pencils come out and it is relatively quiet.

Sharpener is very slow and sounds like the battery is worn down, but it's electric! I have very little faith that it will make it through the school year. The last pencil sharpener I purchased at Staples lasted 3 weeks. Not having much luck.
My sharpener prior to these most recent two lasted 16 years!

I have compared it to another brand of electric sharpener we have in our home and this new one does not seem strong. Motor sounds like it is working too hard. Surprising from the X-Acto brand.

I couldn't have chosen a better pencil sharpner! I bought a cheaper one and returned it the very next day. I have been extremely pleased with this industrial strength pencil sharpner ever since. It's expensive...yet it's worth it!!

Though this sharpener looks great, it's loud and slow. To make matter worse, my students can't tell when the pencil is sharp; some can't even tell if the pencil is inserted correctly. I should have picked a different sharpener.

I use this in my classroom and to be honest the old fashioned do-it-yourself pencil sharpener works better. I was hoping to save time and reduce noise by purchasing this sharpener but that's not what occurred. In 20 min. I only got 7 pencils sharpened! It was a time waster instead of a time saver.

Its so simple, it has a great design, and its really quiet for a sharpener. I am a college student and use it most every day, I'm really glad I picked this one.

I bought this product to use in my classroom. There is no automatic stop when the pencil is sharpened. The students would keep sharpening until they had no pencil left. It was also sharpening the pencils unevenly. It left lots of wood on one side of the pencil

I bought this sharpener as I wanted a sturdy one for my daughter for school. At first it appeared to be working well and doing a good job but after one day's use we went to use it and nothing - no grinding sound, nothing. I returned it for a refund.

This sharpener did not sharpen evenly. You could feel the uneven sharpening as you held the pencil in the barrel. Thus, the pencils were not sharpened in a usable manner. This would be a nightmare in my classroom - lots of noise from the sharpener and pencils that would have to be sharpened again. [...]

I think this sharpener is a notch below what I need in a classroom, but based upon store representation and product stats, I thought it would do the job. It is better suited for home use.

Blades need to be more of a heavy duty material. I used this in my classroom and it only lasted 2 months.

This pencil sharpner ate the pencils and made a terrible noise. I returned it and got my money back, which staples was very nice about.

Don't waste your money on a battery powered sharpener, like I did, unless the portablility is of utmost importance. This X-Acto Electric Sharpener is much more durable and efficient in sharpening pencils. I don't have to worry about battery drainage anymore. Timesaver too, since it can sharpen pencils 10x faster than a battery powered unit. Very pleased with this product.

They just do not make quality products the way they used to. Have a 25 year old electric pencil sharpener that is cosmectically falling apart, but it sharpens quicker, easier,and has stronger and quieter motor than new one I bought at Staples.

We have used this at home, for our children's pencils for doing homework. It stinks! It sharpens pencils on one side of the lead only!! Don't purchase this product.

This product worked well for the first month. Now, I am using the 2cent manual sharpener from Staples because it works better than this lousy product.

This is a really cheap quality product. Heavy duty is what it advertises. Heavy duty it is not. We have sharpened maybe 30-40 pencils and it has stopped sharpening completely. I have already taken it apart twice to clean it out and got it working again. This time it is not even gummed up. Just stopped sharpening. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT!

Bought this product for a high school math classroom , have had it for a number of weeks, and it's still running strong. It sharpens pencils quickly and efficiently, and doesn't get backed up. I'm glad I spent the extra $7 to get the next model up for heavy duty use.

This looks sleek on my desk, but I have to wait until after 5 to sharpen my pencils, or else incur the wrath of cubicle neighbors because it's LOUD. It's not as powerful as described. But, it sharpens satisfactorily, and I'm strictly a "pencil" person so it gets a lot of use.

Bought for its brand name and its sleek style - used at home. To shapen my kids' pencils from school ONLY. Now after 2 months it no longer works after very light use. I will not, cannot reccomend this product and alert buyers to beware.

Wha??? This "pencil sharpener" is almost funny. It's useless. Doesn't sharpen pencils, doesn't even make a good "productive" sound while trying. In a word, it's AWFUL!
In classroom only a few times before it stopped sharpening.

This died after roughly 30 uses in the 3 months we had it....so it cost us about 83 cents per pencil to sharpen them. It had good power for the short time when it did work.
I wouldn't recommend this to a freind or an enemy...but maybe my competition....
The best way to describe this sharpener is just that.... A pencil sharpener. Nothing more, nothing less. I bought this model vs. the store model because of the x-acto/boston names on the package, thinking I would be blown away, but nothing to it. Also slightly overpriced, but may be similiar to other stores.

I chose this model because it was advertised as HEAVY DUTY.
After four months of non-intensive use, the internal drum seems to have come loose and it no longer sharpens.

I figured I'd get the heavy duty model for the extra $5 and have this for many years to come. Right out of the box, my 6 yr old wants to be the first to try it. Coming from a battery operated unit, he was excited, as was I. After inserting a new unsharpened pencil the unit almost slowed to a halt once the blade made contact. I assumed he was pushing too hard and asked him to ease up. He did, but then it made no contact. So, I tried. Unfortunately this unit could not sharpen the pencil with reasonable speed or pressure. Result: 45 seconds to sharpen a pencil. Either the motor is too wimpy to do the job adequately, or I am asking too much for my [$]. I prefer the former. Better luck elsewhere.
