I've had nothing but trouble with this computer, I've had 2 computer people out to install DSL and so far it is not allowing it. I'm very disapointed and its cost me alot...
TO SLOW
This machine was cheap and it shows.
It's wonderful with it's 1gb and 800mhz and 250GB hard drive. Its so fast and the windows vista software makes it my liking. It's really easy to use self explanatory and so convenient. My sister wants one real bad.
I can't believe that the first time I downloaded something to my documents I was told there was not enough memory to open it - and I have 1 gigabyte of memory, which is at least twice what I had before. What does Compaq have running on this thing that I don't know about (and probably don't need)?
play spider solitaire all the time
It's simple, just keep it simple
HP processor speed is double that of my old HP with XP but I don't see much improvement - guess that VISTA slows it down.
Bought this on sale for my mother who won't spend over $400 on a computer. It Works well enough for a computer in that price range.
A good computer but needs to have more memory. Had to upgrade the memory.
This is a personal computer. It's speed is great and I love the idea of the laser inscribing ability. I have to use it, but that's coming soon enough!
Vista Windows not compatable with my existing software.
Very good deal for the power and the brand. An extra 1 GB of RAM would have made it even better. I appreciate that it wasn't loaded up (with features and price) with extra-zany graphics or sound cards...the basic ones are just fine. Clearly, costs were cut with the keyboard (quite flimsy, short cord) and the non-optical mouse, but they work fine. The biggest hassle is the Windows Vista, which has too much annoying fluff to it. Computer makers should have kept a stronger backbone and kept installing XP, with an upgrade disk to Vista included for those who want it. Not Staples fault though!
Great purchase for the money!
This computer has been something that the whole family has used. From the simplest thing to the most complex, it has run fast and smoothly. We love it.
this computer has ongoing numerous video card errors and the screen goes black.
Despite numberous calls and internet searches no one can seem to resolve this problem. This is the second model we have had this problem with.
This is the best and easiest system to change my camcorder film to a DVD
I originally acquired this computer during the 2008 Presidents' Day weekend sale--I admit price played a factor in it (without going into further detail about the price, let's just say that getting a computer with a DVD-RW drive [AND the capacity to burn CDs as well as DVDs!], a 250 MB hard drive, and 1024 KB RAM for the price it was being sold for then REALLY appealed to me then, especially since my old XP computer (this one uses Vista Home Premium, which I THOUGHT was an added bonus, but it turned out not to be--more on that later) has only a (barely) 40 GB hard drive, a non-functioning-for-the-last-3-years DVD-ROM drive, and only 120 KB RAM (Or should I be saying "MB" instead of "KB"? As I pointed out in one of the above sections, I'm "technologically challenged"), so that I never seemed to have enough virtal memory to run the computer for very long, and was constantly running low on--or out of--virtual memory whenever I tried to download something (like my ISP's upgraded Internet software package), or even run my antivirus program on the same day that I ran my antispyware program (both of which took hours to run on that computer). I THOUGHT I was getting a "real deal".The Compaq solved the speed, memory, and DVD drive problems, and it has plenty of hard drive storage available--I was planning to downlod a lot of music and burn it to CD, as well as transfer my Curtain Society music files I'd downloaded from their website (before they took them off the website) and burn ALL of them onto CD--but first I've got to back them up, and then transfer them to A computer with A working CD-RW or DVD-RW drive (you'll see what I mean). (I DO have the hard drive for storage; it's just a matter of organizing the files & storing them...)However, this computer's disadvantages overshadow what's so good about it--for instance, the one I got has a problem with its video hardware that causes the monitor to flicker 4-5 times/day (even after doing a complete system recovery usibg the computer's own recovery partition (which only fixes SOFTWARE problems, anyway) and the message "Video hardware error: Hardware failed and then recovered" to appear on the screen; now it's NOT the monitor (which I had replaced, just in case--it's made by Compaq, just like this computer)--I hooked the new monitor up to my old XP computer for a couple of days, and not once did the new monitor fail, but as soon as I hooked it up to the Compaq computer, the problems started right up again. (It's not the video card, either--according to the computer's self-test, the video card is fine! So I don't know what it it is.)Also, there's a problem with the icon display screen--the right-hand edge of it is black to a width of about 2" (It's only the icon screen that displays this disturbing blackness, which started appearing about 2 days after I set up the computer--the booting-up, login, and web screens show no darkening whatsoever). If *I* had been the one who'd paid for this computer, and I could've gotten to a Staples store, I would DEFINITELY have asked for my money back after the first week [...]--as it is, I've had to go through the hassle of shipping the computer tower back to the manufacturer (after only 2 weeks!), and waiting for them to (improperly) "fix" it TWICE before I can FINALLY request a new computer tower (which probably won't work, either). Meanwhile, I've got to wait weeks for them to ship it back to me each time...(And one more problem I forgot to mention: Sometimes, when a program finishes running on this computer, the message "Release build stopped working" appears on the screen; this is more likely to happen with a program I downloaded and then ran immediately afterwards, or an antivirus or antispyware program--and yes, I do have a firewall and other security programs that did not come with this computer. Nobody at the manucturer's technical support could explain this problem, just as they couldn't explain the other problems once the complete system recovery failed to solve any of them, so they finally ended up saying, "Send it to us for repairs"...)And one more thing: It turns out that hardly anybody knows much about Vista Home Premium--not at my ISP's technical support number, where the most common answer to my questions on the subject was "Well, it's just like Windows XP" (which it definitely is NOT), and not even at the computer manufacturer's technical support number (for example, to solve one of my problems, the technical support representative [TSR] suggested I do a "system restore" by turning on my computer and pressing the "F11" key repeatedly, which I soon found out is what you do when you want to do a "system RECOVERY"--which is how I ended up doing one in the first place. Also, the TSR said he'd actually meant for me to press the "F10" key for the "system restore" but seeing that I couldn't get off the "system recovery" page...He also used the terms "system restore" and "system recovery" as though they were interchangeable, which they are NOT!)
I enjoy using this products
I bought this for my mother and set it up was a snap is working great
I use my PC daily for a variety of tasks, from researching on the Internet to Microsoft Office apps tp videos/music, etc. A lot of bang for the buck.

this has been a great help for my children's school projects
For what the computer is 1.6GHz dual core, it is fine. Windows Vista sucks. The better operating system would be xp pro. $ or$ it is a very good deal. Just blow away Vista and install a decent operating system.
I upgraded the RAM the minute I got it- It's never enough out of the box- for a simple computer it's fine- If you give a gift or to kids for their use- fine- otherwise you need to add more software rather than the trial stuff- It's just OK-being that HP and Compaq have been around for a while- there shouldn't be any concerns about it's longevity or component life expectancy
it works okay, slower than we are used to, okay for a second computer or just to play with
Great performance, at a low price..........

It's the most affordable desktop I ever bought.
The computer is great! I am having a problem installing the driver for the monitor that I bought to go with it, but I suspect that has something to do with the monitor, not the computer itself. Compaq is a great brand at a great price!
[$] nice package, recommend to anybody looking to upgrade
