Great laptop the only thing that is bad is it was very hard to find a bag that fit the laptop, had to get a Swiss Army bag [...] [$] and I took it on a trip to Germany and it was hard to use on the plane in coach. the only other prolbem is it has VISTA but i loaded XP and it is fine. Other than that it is perfect.

I use this computer for application development. The computer overall cannot be beat for the price. The sound could be a little better and you will need to be a little heavy on your typing. The 17 inch screen is very clear. Adding more ram improves the performance greatly. The Acer Eye application will quit working as soon as you add any pictures to your folder (You will not use it anyway, it only takes pictures), but the webcam overall works great.

I am the buyer of this computer - not the user. My employee has told me he has already rated the unit at "4 stars" and would have rated it at "4.5" if your system allowed it, the reason being software bundle. So far, he has found freeware for all missing applications - which is fine by me. If he is happy with it, so am I as the 17" screen requirement was mine and I expected to pay substantially more for a "big screen" portable.

This computer was a lot easier to set up than my daughters toshiba...now its a little heavier but the screen is much bigger. She uses mine for movies and her classes too....did I mention the price was about $500.00 lower! shoot I could have almost purchased two for almost the same as the toshiba.

It was delivered the next day less than 24hours...

Actually Usage is about 50/50 Business/Personal, please don't tell my boss. In any case, my boss insisted on a 17" screen to make the screen easier for him to view. After looking at 17" units, there were only 3 that made sense on a per dollar basis.
One was this machine, the other was a very similar machine with an AMD Processor - faster, NOT Turion, and an HP Machine for a few $ more. At about 1/3 the price of an Apple 17" Pro Book this Acer is a STEAL for most users needing a 17" screen. Most programs that are missing are available as "freeware" somewhere or another. Seems to me the only reasons for NOT buying this machine are as follows:
1. Save Noticeable Money - Buy one with a smaller screen.
2. Processor Speed - Buy the same machine from a competitor for the same price - AND - forego Centrino/Turion features. OR - Spend More.
3. Hard Drive Size - Come on Now - with FireWire or USB 2, with today's prices buy an Auxiliary HD.
4. You are a MacPerson - Won't argue with this - NOT WORTH THE TIME OR EFFORT. Apple is more than a brand, it is a lifestyle verging on being a religion.

My husband and I just purchased this computer last week. We love it, but the only complaint is that we've had some trouble when typing. If we're in the middle of typing, it will sometimes go back to the beginning. My husband was typing a paper for school, and he had been typing for about 30 minutes. he was in a school website, and couldnt save. He hit backspace to erase one letter, and it erased the whole paper. I dont know if all laptops are like this, but i know this one is. I dont think I'd buy it again.

I bought this laptop when I compared its price and performance (Windows Vista rating was 3.4)

It has really good performance for such not expensive laptop. Plus: big screen, good viewing angles, 2Gb of RAM, pretty big HDD.

It was a suprise for me that I was able to play UT2004 and HMM5 with comfort.

P.S. When I updated video drivers Windows Vista rating became 3.5

I thought it was very easy navagation. I like the key board and I bought a wirelss mouse and the little card stays in and out of my way. I prefer using the mouse rather than the pad so it was a smart choice for me. my husband loves it too. we are thinking of buying another one and get the tech experts to help us go wireless all over the house. I wish the battery life was a little longer, that is my only complaint
