Kids love this laptop and are always fighting over who gets to use it. Definately worth the money.
The Notebook itself isn't bad for the money. It is a bit slow due in fact to HP only provides 1mb or Ram Memory installed. It does have the ability to add additional memory but that is going to cost you more down the road. If you shop the competition Dell, Acer they are offering a comparable model with 2mb of Ram for the same money. The software that comes with the unit is very limited and even worse it is timed so that you only get to use the software package 20-25 times before you then have to shell out a few more hundred dollars to get the key to continue using it. Also the same principal applies to the games that come with computer use it for a while then HP wants additional money for the key to continue playing the games. The worst thing about this computer is HP/Compaq support. There might as well be none. No one in HP is in this country. You can't understand a word their customer service employees are saying, it takes 30-45 min. just to get a live person on the phone. Then once you have explained the problem they transfer you several times to all garble mouth people who all they can say is politely please wait sir I will transfer you to someone who can help. Finally after 5-6 individuals all of whom you can barely make out the tech tells you this is not a problem with the machine it is a software problem with Microsoft you need to contact them. Good luck, once you call Microsoft they tell you this is a OEM copy of Vista and the manufacturer HP must provide assistance. I only have this unit approximately one week and after dealing with HP/Compaq support I am serious considering returning it. [...] I personally will be doing some investigating to determine if Acer has a better customer support team then HP. I can't see how it could be worse. My last notebook was a Dell and the computer and support at that time were excellent. Unfortunately, as I understand it Dell has since also moved their customer support off shore in order to increase their profits. In closing this particular notebook is okay 2-2.5 stars out of 5. Quality is okay, needs more memory, needs more permanent software, and definitely the HP corporation needs to re-evaluate their customer support intentions. If any support even exists.
think compaq is wonderful
Kids love it. It is LIGHT, SIMPLE. It is adequate for Home/Personal computing and Great bargain for the asking price. In my opinion it is well designed. The keys are BIG and responsive. OK, here are my complaints: 1) Why the logo shows Pressario F700 instead F750US? 2) The left USB port is too close to AC connector which will elbow any flash/thumb drive. Vista Home Premimum is doing OK on this machine. I have a much faster processor laptop with different brand but performs much slower with XP. T4.
OK, I have to say right up front that I was looking for a bargain. Little did I know that I was buying the BEST notebook I've ever owned. I've owned Dells, HPs and Gateways but this beats them all. I bought it last week for a bargain [$] and immediately upgraded the memory to 3G. It's blazing fast....cool. The AMD chip and the 3G makes it awesome...One comment...even thought it can take up to 3G, it has only 2 slots form memory. It comes with 2, 512M DIMMS so get rid of these right from the start and equip with a 1 and a 2....I love this machine and can't find a thing wrong with it....WHAT A DEAL....
Needed immediately a convenient laptop, I got it! Very satisfied.
Use mostly for surfing the internet. Love the large screen...great for viewing movies. Don't like the Vista OS.
Saw this computer on sale, and boy I do not regret this purchase. Aside from an overly sensitive scroll mouse pad, low initial buyin has allowed me to have a dualCore, 64bit computer, which I was able to easily upgrade to 4gigs of memory, and upgraded the hard drive to 160gb SATA. While you can get the two DDR2 Notebook 2GB chips from Staples, I had to go outside of Staples to find a 160GB SATA.
I use this as a business computer for demonstrating network systems implemented as Virtual Images on the this computer. I normally have a Linux server and Windows 2003 server running on it with out issue.
One negative is that Vista consumes way too much CPU and memory by itself. Will be upgrading from Home Premimum to Business and if need be to a 64bit Operating system to get that under better control. But for home usage this is a very good system, and worth your time purchasing it.
Affordable! Light weight! I've had it for about a month now and I am still excited.
Great value at the reduced rebate price.
I use this computer for home use as well as kids school computer and it works great. I have some issues with MS VISTA, but can't blame the computer for that. I could have put MS windows on computer but sio far have found no real need to. I would recommend this computer without hesitation.
so far so good
An excellent value for someone who does not need it for gaming or high-capacity graphics use.
This computer is Ok. Not real fast.I had to add ram to it already just to surf like my big computer.
The only thing I could think to put is that I wish the memory was 2 gig instead of 1. I was able to upgrade since i found a deal on memory at another store. For less than $100 I managed to get it upgraded to 2 gig and did it myself.
Compaq was not so good. Dell and Toshiba were on the top of best.
Not true any more. Compaq makes good laptop now. slim, light, powerful and inexpensive. I use this one for sidework and some personal business. the price just fit my budget and has good performance.
Personal use. Great to have with me on the move. Does all I expect of it, quickly, and without any trouble.
daily basis for news and information
I was very pleased with the laptop. Overall it does everything i needed it for, I was however not very happy with the overpriced extended warranty (almost the value of the laptop what a joke) So I would suggest other options like a warranty from a third party available at about 20% of the price offered by Staples
Could use to be a little faster so adding more memory would be helpful. Also the battery doesn't last too long but other than that its a great laptop for the price.
Pretty nice for the price [...], durable construction, speed not to bad once Vistaloadsup, but still lags a little on and off. Would be wicked with XP and three gig of ram. Why Vista? It seems to run fairly cool, does not get to hot.I like that. Wireless works good, battery 2hr 40 min. enough connections for me. I just wanted something mobile to take for coffee hot spots. Will probably add ram and put XP on it after warranty runs out, I want to make sure it holds upto HP & Compaqs reputation. All in All I do like it.
Used for home and some business activities, processor is very quick.
A mid line computer that offers a fair amount of features for the money. It is a good product with excellent customer service if you need to contact them. Easy to upgrade yourself should you want to.
I use it for the internet and music/pictures. It's very simple and meets my needs.
I read my email check the internet and other misc. things
returned for an acer for same price but i got a web cam & microphone already in it
Lightweight, easy to use!

I'm a computer programmer, so I researched several laptops, then decided to go with this one. I am very happy with this purchase. For basic computer usage - emails, pictures, games, etc. It was easy to set-up. I'm not a huge fan of Vista but I already have it on my Desktop so I'm used to it. You can't beat the price. [...]

I really think this unit was fast, easy to operate despite Windows Vista and affordable. Where I had the Most serious problem was when it went down. I sent it back to HP [...]. HP customer service was absolutely terrible. Everytime I called I was told a different thing. One customer service rep named Rips even told me that HP didn't need my business because they were to large. I complained to someone after she terminated the call and no resolution whatsovever. If you do not enjoy talking to outsourced, indifferent customer service then do not buy this unit.
compaq is the worst computer brand ever. go with any of the other computer brands. i ended up spending atleast a month or two of just trying to get this computer and my other compaq desktop from 4 years ago back up and running. if you do get a compaq get the [...] warranty on it and use it.
