I should have tried the gateway. Do not like Vista, prefer Windows XP. Vista updates too much and it takes to long. Only had the machine approx. 2 months and it's having issues.

Your Multi-Purpose Laptop

I'm in grad school and like to go to the library to study, and needed a decent laptop to replace the Inspiron 8200 my wife had pilfered from me.

I didn't need a multimedia powerhouse, as I have one on my desktop. Instead, I wanted something lighter and with better battery life than the 8200. I also wanted a built-in webcam for the occasional business trip so I can video chat with the kids. On these issues I succeeded. Even though it's just 2 pounds lighter, it's much easier to carry around without constantly being aware of it. And if I step the screen brightness down a bit, I can get almost 4 hours of battery life.

On the downside, the glossy screen really annoys me. In a dark room it's got great contrast, but in libraries and classrooms you get glare from the lights. I've been getting used to it, but still prefer the matte finish on my old screen.

If you're going to do lots of graphics, music, or video, you'll want something with more storage and a faster CPU. Likewise, if you're a road warrior, you'll want something lighter. But for occasional travel, basic writing, homework, web surfing, and the like, this is a reliable machine at a decent price.

This is a nice starter computer. Its not the Best out there but it's reliable and is ready to use as soon as you turn it on. Would be nicer if you could choose the OS and if it didn't come with so much "Demo" ware. But thats normal for any new comp. The buttons on the laptop are well designed and easy to use. The external ports are very easy access. I got this and found that the laptop preformed just as good if not better than my current tower. All and all a nice way to introduce some to computers.

I wish someone had told me that it takes 1GB of RAM just to run Windows Vista. I would have gotten a laptop with 2GB or more. Now I have to bring it back in to get an extra GB put in my 1525.

Only kidding, I really didn't want the PINK however its nice that there are so many options wih the color. I really enjoy having a laptop that I can keep with me all the time. I'm trying to write my life story so it's much more convenient than writing everthing by hand. Even though I said the software bundle wasn't that great, for the price I paid it really was. Totally enjoying it!

3 weeks after purchase, We are on our THIRD copy of this Dell Inspiron Lapatop 1525......and only now, after multiple exchanges and hours of help from (Dell's [...] Tech Support) is it FINALLY working fairly well...without multiple and increasing Blue Screen failures. Even now....on this last unit....the CLOCK simply will not hold time.....or set itself on the Internet's Bureau of Standards system. What a BUMMER....after THREE tries on what we thought was a good brand of computer. NOT so...even with exchanges from 2 separate Staples stores AND finally a direct drop shipment of the latest unit from Dell itself WOW! What's a consumer to do?????

I love this machine! I am just thrilled with it. It runs fast, premium works so much better than basic for the OS. It was a deal when it was on sale for [$] which made it less expensive than ordering it from dell [...] If you think you want a dell and compare it to other brands the dell is amazing.

Strong Performance for a Budget Laptop

There are many features for a budget laptop such as 160 GB HD, DVD/CD RW, Truelife 1280x800 screen, 2MP webcam, wireless, Vista Home Premium, 24x7 service, dual core pentium processor, etc. I do not find the 1 GB of RAM to have ever limited my use even with aero glass turned on. I did have a problem with a faulty block on the HD of my first unit but support from Dell and Staples were excellent, and my unit was exchanged easily. Windows Vista seems less stable than XP as an operating system, but Vista does have nice features such as HD video editing, media center, easier network setup, and it looks nicer. The laptop has many nice ports such as 4 USB, 1 firewire, 1 VGA, 1 ethernet, 1 modem, and even 1 HDMI; however, it lacks a floppy drive and standard serial port and Vista lacks hyperterminal which can limit communication with older computers. The speed of the laptop is quite fast with connectivity to newer devices and the webcam (640x480 @ 30fps and 1600x1200 @ 10 fps top speeds) has come in handy on occasion, so I am quite happy with the product overall.

Props to Staples for a painless buying experience. I was shopping for a basic, yet functional laptop online and in a few local "big-box" stores... I decided on the Inspiron 1525 due to the features, and the price. [...]. It works well in my wireless home network, and I can't wait to break in the webcam! I am very happy w/my purchase, and even tease my college-student niece who has the larger, heavier 1520.

This system worked great right out of the box, and surprisingly it runs very well with just 1 GB memory ... though I will likely upgrade to 2 GB, it's nice that I don't have to, to be able to already use the system as it came, for Video and DVD creation, Audio creation, and my book projects. It is a lot faster than I expected and the graphics are crisp and bright. The webcam works great too, and the included Creative Earphones are a lot better than my old ones, I use 'em for my iPod shuffle too. Overall, a real bargain. Dell and Staples ... a good combination.
