Switch always flaky but at almost 2 years to the day, it has died. I am going back to using a 6 year old Sony Clie. For the price, this product should live longer than 2 years. Will look at Windows CE device next time I replace since palm OS has no other choice than palm
I use tungstenE2 for business use on appointmets, expenses calculations, and contact lists.
What is not good about tungsten E2 it's screen blacked out several times and was unable to come back on and then after a couple of weeks turned on then finally turned off and isn't turning back on.
Also had trouble transferring files to my computer. Would download in the nsync then not.
This is the second one I got from Staples and both had problems. Quite frequently, the stylus just won't write or register on the touchscreen, or else it is about 1/4 inch off-register. I tried re-calibrating it but to no avail. Palm customer service is useless. They said to try a hard reset, which didn't work. Then they want to charge $149 to repair a $209 device. Palm is just a customer-unfriendly company. Now I'm looking at blackberries...
We use it for a job clock system

I have thoroughly enjoyed the Tungsten E2. I have had it for over 2 years now, and it has gotten me through the end of high school and partly through college (when I need all of the features it has, including a check booking software). The main problem I have with it is that the battery seems to be too short.

I relied on my T3 primarily as an address book, calendar, and notes. I bought it in Aug 06 and without warning in Aug 08, it stopped responding. I went through troubleshooting with Palms online help including a hard boot that erased all my data. Nothing worked. I then called Palm's technical support line and was advised not to fix it as the repair costs would be more than buying a new one. I couldn't believe it. After reading the other reviews I guess I was lucky to get 2 years use out of it but I'm extremely unhappy and am looking for an alternative.

Not happy that the screen died all of a sudden in less than a year. That is expensive! I didn't buy the warranty the first time, but I surely did the second time.
One of the few basic PDAs left and still excellent!

I am sure there are many things I can do with the E2. However, since it did not come with an instruction manual, I might never find out all of them. Give me a manual to read and I am tech savy. No manual, I am just tech capable.

I didn't get the iPhone or Blackberry because i don't have my work paying for the monthly charges. But i really needed something to help me organize without having to carry a laptop. This is perfect - I can carry it everywhere and write notes to myself all the time without having to look for paper, or where I put the note. The only other thing I would want (it would be hard to do because of size) is to be able to look at a whole calendar with appts at one time.

Bought this product to use with Nursing Central software and I love it.
I just got this and already not functioning properly. I am unable to use the bottom of the screen to punch in letters so have to use the graffiti function. I would send it in to repair it but just got it and it's a hassle to be without it while it's being repaired. One time it would'nt turn on and I had to do a soft reset.
The next step would be a Treo - but who wants to pay the freight!

This sudden failing is ridiculous! Mine simply died one day, after a hot sync, I hard-shocked the system by removing and replacing the battery. This helped it to function for about another month. Now, it's completely dead. This PDA worked for about 18 mos, that's only a bit over [$]/mo, but Palm has GOT to do something about this problem or I will have to stop buying their products.
It was wasted money. I never got it to sync with my computer. Stopped trying after a couple months
A product with a 150 page instruction guide is NOT easy to use.
I would not recommend this product to anyone.
I use this pda to run quilt n calc - a program for designing quilts. It fits the bill perfectly.
To keep track of my appointments
Very difficult to use as to applications. Not easy to assemilate to the windows programs discribed. Three weeks into use and still having to learn how to funtion within.
Even so, still like the unit.
The screen is bright, the charactrer is clear.
It is used to keep track of appointments, money managing, contacts, listing of CDs and DVDs, etc
[...]
I use the product for lists that I need fast access to. It is slower than I need.

I use the Tungsten E2 on a daily basis to maintain my calendar, to-do list, and contacts. In addition I carry several Word and Excel documents that I find it useful to have on hand. It's a good, easy-to-manage size, and the Palm OS, while looking dated, works fine and is crash-free--so far!
We are disappointed that it won't work on 64 bit processor. The assistant Manager at Staples also tried to use bluetooth and it wouldn't work also. We had to return this

The Tungsten E2 is very useful, I upgraded from the Z22, and was immediately impressed with the increased speed of the processor, and the upgrade in screen size. One of my favorite features is the fact that Real Player for Palm OS is included. I just put a 1 GB SD Card in the built in slot, and I've got hours of music via the built in headphone jack.
The infrared connectivity of the Z22 is replaced with Bluetooth. I haven't had a chance to test that, as I don't have any other Bluetooth devices, but it appears that if I was in a Bluetooth internet hot-spot, I could get online, so that looks like a nice feature.
Overall, an excellent product for mid-range budgets. It has just enough bells and whistles to make me very excited about what the top of the line model has.
This is a nice handy unit, fast and easy to use. I haven't had the chance to get it in sinc with my computer yet ( tech guys at the U are a bit slow ) but am looking forward to it. I think it will be a big plus in keeping track of things. Once it's hooked up I will know more about it's capabilities and storage.

Palm changed the file system, making many previous Palm compatible programs incompatible with this model. I had to upgrade to Datebook 6 and my Mapopolis program is not compatible at all.
This device is okay for appointments and as an address book, but pretty pathetic when it comes to syncing with PC. Is PALM its last legs?

I've been a loyal Palm user for nearly 10 years. The Palms keep getting worse and worse. The last and my final Palm only lasted 8 months. These things of beauty have become a thing of junk.
The screen would not respond to the stylus on the last one. Before that the on/off button quit working.

Device froze up on my several times. Screen would often not respond to the stylus or respond in the wrong spots. After just 6 months use, part of the screen became dead and would not respond at all. [...]

This is my 6th and last Palm. I actually bought two, one for my wife and one for me. Hers was no good in about 6 months. The accuracy of the touch had gotten so bad it was unusable. Now mine has done the same thing. Palm doesn’t want to know you after 90 days. They’ll send knowledge base articles explaining how to reset your palm. They are no help.
The search function will list only the first page of results. When you hit “continue” it just returns the same page. I wrote to Palm and they told me they were aware of the situation but had no fix. They suggested I BUY third party software to correct the problem! I was amazed that Palm shipped a product they knew didn’t work and then told their customers to pay for a fix.
I won’t buy another Palm product which is a shame because I have been using their products for close to ten years. The company and the products have really gotten terrible.
I have owned many Palm Pilots over the years and have loved each one. This particular one has been awful from the beginning. The write-on screen feature is terrible, very innacurate. I've had to use the keyboard instead. It recently began making a loud, high-pitched noise and kept telling me there was a fatal error. I've only had the thing for several months. The warranty has expired and I've wasted my money. I should have read the reviews before buying this product, as some others have also had bad experiences.
I could not get the software that came with it downloaded. It stalled twice and locked up my computer for hours. [...] Tungsten technical support gave me the run around and long story short, it is going back tomorrow! Terrible purchase and now Staples looks bad too.
I use this product to track appointments, play games and keep track of other important items.
Originally purchased over a year ago as an organizer. Contact info and Calendar are very easy to use. I have utilized them well! I have also utilized the Word doc software to keep up to date on a mini novel that I am writing using the portable wireless keyboard (syncs great with my computer using WinXP).
I have unexpectedly used RealPlayer as my main MP3 player. Despite complaints that I have heard from other users regarding the music player, I have had very little problem and only occasionaly (maybe a couple times) have had to reset the device. I did have a problem for a short time with a crossword program, but figured out that it was a software conflict, deleted it and haven't ran into that issue since. I use it a lot for Solitaire and recently, even to watch converted movies from DVD. I have found the color screen resolution handy for viewing and editing my photos (the screen is so much larger than my digital camera). This also saves on my digital camera batteries which are NOT rechargeable. The SD card option is WONDERFUL, but would love to be able to read a size larger than 1GB! For the Tungsten E2's size and price, it's an umbelievable value.
To open lockbox on houses for sale that show to clients.
I had this for about four years and it was great item for me. I used it so much it finally wore out, so I purchased another will continue to do so until they stop making them.
After Warranty expired, palm would freeze up and would have to disconnect battery frequently to reset. This device is my 2nd E2 and lasted only one year. I am now purchasing my 3rd only because my company software will only work with this palm device thats affordable(Got what I paid for)
This is my 6th Palm device and each one is worse than the previous. This one is tempermental and was un-responsive to key strokes using the stylus. I constantly had to re-write letters 2-3 times to get it right. The battery life was very short and got progressively shorter over time. After 9 short months, it has died. The warranty is only 90 days so I am stuck having to spend another [$] to replace it. Unfortunately, I am hooked on these things and can't live without it. I wish someone would come up with an alternative that was compatable with my company software!
Migrating from a Sony Clie (used for almost 5 years, great tool!). Bought both an E2 and Palm TX to test out.
My only complaint is about the hardware manufacturing: The E2, when you shake it, rattles in the buttons and feels cheap in construction (it is plastic...). Would it last 4 plus years of turn on / off and pugging in, pulling in and out of pocket, etc.?
I decided to go with the TX.
I have had this product for five years, and it still works perfectly. It is not perfect, hence the blukiness, but does it's job very well. It helps keep my schedule organized!
Between business and family, organization is key in keeping it together. The Tungsten allows me to keep track of everything at home and at the office.
Okay, I used this on a day to day basis to schedule my day, week, etc. I used the checklist, and used the documents-to-go to write papers. However, I have had to call to get it fixed twice, the first time for a non-functional power button, the second time for a software error (gotten from documents to go, can be a bad program). The digitizer callibration has a tendency to loop, and is not at all accurate. the tapped area is not constant; if you hold the stylus in one place objects being held may waver. And it can't read my grafitti very well. It's dead now, I am buying a new model.
The product works wonderfully but could use some adjustments. I find it hard to search for games onit though it works perfectly.

Don't spend the money. Had this thing 4 months and it started acting up. Palm only has a 3 month warranty. So now I'm out of luck. It's hard to justify spending that kind of money for 4 months of use.

I have owned a Visor Handspring Platinum and a Neo for years and love them. Recent "upgrades" to the Palm Desktop syncing software stopped working with my Visors so I bought the Tungsten E2. The screen is mushy to the tap and the machine responds slowly. Already I have a hard time tapping on the down arrow for the address book (unit purchased 9/2/07). Discovered The Missing Sync and found it works with my Visors! The Tungsten E2 is going back [...]tomorrow (9/4/07). When the iPod Touch or iPhone reach the next stage in their development I'll probably move to one of them (we're Mac users). I'm SO disappointed in Palm. Sad to see the Palm line dying...

Palm has really slid downhill with its PDA offerings. Its now down to three options, and all of them are getting somewhat long in the tooth. I bought this E2 to replace my second Tungsten C, which, like its predecessor, lasted about a year and a half before reaching a terminal state. [...]had both the E2 and the T/X on sale, and I'm thinking that I should have sprung for the more expensive model, as the processor speed on the E2 noticeably lags what I had come to experience on the C. But I really did not want to drop another hundred bucks on something that is not likely to last very long. My mistake. And the initial hotsync was a nightmare. The palm software somehow missed an incompatible application that had worked fine on the C but which froze the E2 with a fatal error on startup. So I had to do a hard reset, manually clear out the backup folder of everything but the applications and data that I considered critical, and reinstall. Thankfully, that worked, but it will take me another couple of weeks to add back applications that I still need once in a while, as I have a real job that has to be attended to. It looks like Palm is putting all their eggs in the smart phone basket, and that may indeed be where the digirati spend their money these days. But if I am in the market for a PDA again in a year or two, despite the fact that I have had a Palm since the first model came out, I may have to look at the competition this time.

I purchased this as primarily an Outlook extension. I have found that it helps me stay very organized with my busy family schedule. A few games for passing the time help, and it's a lot easier to lug around than a laptop.

Upgraded to the Palm T/X I hope this is better than the E2.

This was my third Palm will be my last, unfortunately. My first Palm was the Vx and it was great--lasted almost 3 years. Then I upgraded to the Tungsten E--incredible performance and quality--dropping it on concrete could not kill it and it lasted 2.5 years before the battery died. I then replaced it in May 2007 with the Tungsten E2. You could tell right away that the power and sync connnectors were cheaper and the 4-way button was rickety and the cover did not stay on and the stylus did not stay in the sleeve as tightly. The software is more unstable and has some glitches. I was able to transfer my data from the E fine, but after 85 days it just went dead when I was using it. It had not been abused at all--in perfect condition and it just dies and would not turn back on. [...] I am disappointed that the quality has done down in Palm--it is completely not understandable why they would make a unit that is worse than a older one. And they only give you 90 days of warrenty. I was lucky that mine died less than 90 days from purchase. I would sooner buy a used E than a new E2. The E was better made.
