I have never used an external HD for back up. My expectations were that you would plug this in and push a button and it would back up files. What a surprise when it wanted selections on Google, Yahoo and a bunch of other garbage that I hardly ever use. This is definately not for the novice user! I might as well have written the back-up files long hand! It takes less effort.

I keep my most recent backup in a safe deposit box in the event of fire. I keep 2 of these rotating each month. The small size enabled me to reduce the size (and therefore cost) of my safe deposit box. The drive is fast and sets up in a heartbeat. Recommend to anyone.

We use this drive to store our daily backups. Compared to the old (4 yr old) drive we had, this little thing is the best thing since sliced bread! The setup took all of 2 minutes. I think it took me longer to get the drive out of the box than it did to actually set it up. Performance speed is excellent. A backup which used to take us about 30 minutes on the old drive now only takes about 10 minutes. Also, now we don't have a cumbersome power cord and adapter to deal with, since this beauty is USB powered (YAY!) We are actually contemplating buying a second one to take along on business travels. Along with its size and weight, it's an optimal drive in all aspects!

The Passport drive is smaller than expected, and wonderfully so. That being said, it has a couple of design flaws that could eventually cause it's downfall. The USB port is hidden under a rubber door, but rubbers often deteriorate with use and time. In addition, the disk does not self-power down with the "safely remove this device" feature in Windows, meaning when it is disconnected, it is a hard power down--also another potential for failure.

This portable harddrive (HD) is great for backup for mobile storage of your files! It requires no separate power source, so all you need is a USB port. That's the wonder of portable HDs. Of course, for the portability you pay for harddrive space, but compare this to the portable HDs at the apple store and you find you really save money!

I use this HD for Time Machine on my Macbook. It works great every-night when I put it in for the backup to begin. Now, it is a tad annoying to have to remember to put the HD in every-night but compare it to speeds you would get backing up wireless via a G network.

This is a great alternative to apple's expensive backup solutions. It comes ready to work with windows, but I do not recommend this a flash drive. You need to plug in an extra cable to make it work (included) and it's a bit to unwieldily to make it work like that. Get a flash drive for that - you enjoy it more and save money!
