The thing that happens the most it that the new roads aren't in it so it can't find the address you are looking for. Also sometimes it will tell you to turn on a road and there is no road there to turn onto or it will say like east on rt. 112 and there is only a south rt. 112 exit. Other than that we are really happy with it. Thanks

In general, the Nuvi200 was good. I found quickly though that, living in the NY Metro area, it was more than a little challanged to decipher exactly which road I was on or which exit among back-to-back exits I actually took. It was great at mapping highways routes but, again, in the NJ area, often the shortest way is not the best way and the Nuvi was unable to see that or allow programming to learn it. I returned it after about a week of testing. It would also acquire signal rather slow at times but that tended to occur near my office each time so it might jsut be something in the area.

I went shopping for a GPS for my floral business. I spoke with one of my wholesalers that I wanted a GPS and he is a frequent traveler and would KNOW the best buys, and he said, dont waste your time with other GPS, get GARMIN. Mind you, it is my first GPS system and the only one I have ever used, but I love it. I love everything about it. Clear, concise, and instead of telling me THE route to go by, will adjust to the various roads I CHOOSE to drive. I'd give this product 5 stars, cuz I love it, but with nothing else to compare it to, and never a bad or frustrating experience, I feel I am fair as a first time GARMIN GPS user, to say its excellent. Go for it! I'd recommend it to anyone!

Used extensively in the US & most recently during our family vacation around Europe. (Germany, France, Italy, Austria Switzerland) Bought the European maps and loaded them on with an added 1G memory card. Worked like a dream and made our Europe trip very enjoyable by taking the stress out of finding our way around. Easy interface and simple to use. Found numerous points of historic interest as well as hotels and eating establishments along the way. Knowing what I know now, easily worth purchasing at twice the price. Cannot say enough good things about the Nuvi 200. Outstanding.

Garmin Nuvi 200 - my take
By OnVerified Purchaser from Dallas, TX on 7/9/2008
Describe Yourself:
Bad With Directions, Gearhead
Primary use:
Personal
Pros:
Compact, Easy Menus
Cons:
Acquires Satellites Slowly
Best Uses:
Planning Trips
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I use the Garmin Nuvi 200 to plan out trips to places that I have not been before; both around town and further away. I like that I was able to obtain updated maps when I first bought the device via online update. However, compared to an updated Tom Tom One 3rd Ed., this one doesn't lock onto satellites quite as fast. Charging via USB also is not as nice as the Tom Tom since the display is always turned on, on this one. The thing that I do like about this GPS unit is that I can search restaurants by cuisine, which Tom Tom doesn't offer. Battery life is decent, though. One last thing I am not so crazy about is not being able to choose to avoid tolls. I can tell it to avoid certain roads, but that is less automated and less convenient.

Great no frills GPS.
1. Very accurate.
2. I love the fact I don't need to pull into a gas station for directions, only to discover the attendant can't speak English, or does not know the area "me no from here."
3. No need to print mapquest directions TO and FROM location.
4. Even if you do print out directions, make one wrong turn, and you're screwed. And that's assuming the directions are even right to begin with.
The ONLY drawback is, this device does not speak the streetnames, which is ok, just look at the screen. Other than that, with gas hitting $4.10 for premium, this device already paid for itself and then some.

I don't know if this is a Garmin thing but when I was looking for a few places (e.g. Post office, WalMart) - these locations were no longer there. So driving way out to some place that's no longer there is kind of annoying. Overall though - it's a great investment to a person who just moved to somewhere new. I love it - don't know what I would do without it!

Easy, simple, nearly foolproof. Manual & help are in the unit. Fits in shirt pocket. Very accurate. If you miss a turn or have to detour it recalculates a new route in seconds and has you on your way. I will never travel in another city or in an unknown area in my city without it. Seems to have even the smallest roads in it. Will take you through a shopping center. Be careful where you mount the mounting disk for the suction mount to grab. I mounted it on the dash of one car and it had the sun shining on the screen when we drove southward. I checked it out with the car facing north when I mounted the disk. Disk is semipermanent. Get an AC adaptor made to plug the DC power cord into so you can re-charge in your home or hotel room before or during trips. Battery life is 4 to 5 hours, depending on how bright you have the screen and volume of the voice. You can keep it charged in the car, but I like to unplug it and keep it in my pocket. I like this because it does everything I want. I don't want video, MP3 player, nor do I want to describe to weather and traffic reports. This is perfect for my needs. Note, this has millions of cities, roads, establishments (restaurants, ATM's, motels, etc.) built in, "Go To" by address, city, type, and longitude and latitude. Feels very sturdy and well made, not wimpy. Touch screen works flawlessly. The price on this model keeps dropping, so it may be replaced with a more $$$ model. Wish I'd gotten one before, but I got it in time to navigate Charleston SC and boy, would I have been in trouble without it!! I have two Garmin GPS units for hiking, backpacking, and very simple city road identification. This is for road and highway navigation, in cities, walking, or riding or bicycling. It gets you there and back. It keeps a trip record of miles traveled, miles to go, average moving speed, overall average speed, stopped time, moving time, total time. Shows estimated time of arrival. You can add an intermediate destination such as a restaurant you found en route to stop at. It will take you to the intermediate point of interest and then navigate you back to your original destination. Sometimes it does not pick the route I prefer, so it recalculates when I don't follow it and re-routes for me. I love this Nuvi 200.

This is my second Garmin and I don't know how anyone lives without it! I highly recommend purchasing a garmin! I used to have the much more expensive StreetPilot version and I like this one alot more! They are both awesome but these smaller versions are just as capable for 1/4 price. I bought my lady the 260 with widescreen and I think I like hers more than mine. I say spend the extra 50-100 and get the widescreen.
