We use the GPS to help us locate roads or areas that we are not familiar with.
Not only shows routes and turns but announces turns and route or street on to which you are turning(best feature, you can keep your eyes on the road). If you miss a turn rerouting is relatively quick.

At times is slow in attaining satellite but in general ok. Has locked up once but reset button on side of unit fixed immediately.Refer to the route VISUAL MAP as being correct if there is discrepancy between text-to-speech and visual map.

I purchased this unit several weeks ago [$] based on the numerous positive reviews.Out of the box the unit works well...The colors and backgrounds leave something to be desired, so after reading several gps enthusist sites I was off to modding the unit. The menues are a bit laggy(is that a word?), so by turning off the animations it would speed the unit up.Navigon has just released another update for all of their 21xx,51xx, and 71xx units. SO it is nice to know that they are still supporting this unit. Compared to a Garmin Nuvi that I used recently, the Garmin wins, but based on price and preformance, it's the navi 2100 hands down

For the price, this GPS works great and has made my life easier. It has tons of locations preloaded like hotels, restaurants, sports venues, airports, etc. Sometimes it takes a few minutes to acquire a GPS signal when I first turn it on, but for the most part there are no problems. Also sometimes, it is a little confusing at large complicated intersections, but even if you accidentally go the wrong way, the GPS adjust quickly to get you back on track.

When making a change while en-route, it always wants to take you back to your original route.

I used the product several times, occasionally it gave bad directions, but we were able to overcome them. Overall it really helped me navigate. I have trouble mounting it in the holder and also getting the holder to stick on the windshield. I also like the fact that it talks to give the directions, However, we have had a few laughs at the way she pronounces some streets.

I think this is the best performance and value by far. I have tried the competition and they disappoint, I do not need a video game going on to distract me with vibrant colors and multi colored car icons, I need a navigation aid. The maps are the most accurate and in the six months since it has been available, they have upgraded the firmware twice (improved performance) and given a map update for free (the original map was more accurate than new models from the competition). As with ANY gps unit, it is not always going to guide you exactly the best way every time, but on the other hand, it has taught me better ways to get where I am going when I have "known" the area as well. I have therefore learned to trust it and follow its direction. It always gets me where I am going and find that the arrival timer is the most accurate by a wide margin, which is really the most important thing if you are trying to tell a customer when you will arrive.

Nice device with a few voice quirks
By RoadrunnerVerified Purchaser from Cambridge, MA on 6/19/2008

Cons:

Best Uses:
Rural Navigation, Urban Navigation
Describe Yourself:
Bad With Directions, Frequent Traveler, Gearhead
Primary use:
Personal
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The device is overall excellent, and I got it for quite cheap. It acquires fast, is bright with an accurate touchscreen, and has more POI than you can shake 19 sticks at. The text-to-speech on this unit is excellent (no more "turn in 100 feet, street signs are for humans"). It's only flaw is that it will give a quarter mile warning, followed by "Turn right NOW!", which is a bit annoying in turn-dense areas. Without this one flaw, this thing would rate a 6 out of 5. Oh, and for those that care, the thing is just as sexy as the latest Nuvi or Tom Tom One.

I love the product itself, but we had to mess around with it a little too much to figure out how to set the coordinates. It would have been easier if full instructions were with the product. It would have made it easier for my first trip. Everyone in the car were trying to figure out how to set the coordinates. We finally got it 50 miles down the road. Once we got it set though it was great! I will never travel without it. Thanks.

A great convenience for all drivers, that delivers as advertised once you have it set up. Call tech support first off, to learn setting and operation details not covered in enclosed instructions. Allows you to know distance and ETA as soon as you start. Digital and verbal advance turn prompts make it hard to go wrong. I bought them for my children, as well.

Very nice GPS and I've used quite a few. I have a Nuvi 350 for myself and purchased this for my wife. I used it for a week to make sure she would find it useful. I would trade my Nuvi for this unit if she wanted to, but she likes it. Don't have the time to review all items, but in short there are things I like about the 2100 over the Nuvi (more flexible POI lookups and more routing options) and some things I like about the Nuvi over the 2100 (better battery life, by a small amount, larger keypad for input, and a little faster response as you type in and navigate the menus). They are different of course, but both have a sensitive receiver (SIIRF) which I always look for in a unit and operate well. You won't be disappointed with this unit.

mostly for business driving; sometimes personal either locally or search for destinations you may have been to and want to find again - not so hot unless you know every specific detail, even with update. bought thinking no update was needed, but needed immediate one, only good for 12 months. think the view you see if what you get; but really have to be in major city with 8 lanes on highway; traffic is extra cost; buttons really require hard touch on screen (damage later?) to accept something, and then will only take what it preloaded. Otherwise, great with information that is loaded, once you get used to 2d and 3d views, night and day, etc. Note: SHORT battery life. No instructions where it is or how to change it, it is already loaded when purchased, and have to call or em. I am doing this now. Good deal for the cost at the time. Not as simple as Garmin or TomTom.

I bought this to use on a trip that I was taking alone, the first time I've gone 400 miles by myself. It was great! It took 95% of the stress out of the trip and was like having someone in the car with me, helping me navigate. I especially like the Reality View at interstate junctions and the fact that it tell you which lane to get in before you reach a turn or exit, giving you time to get into position in heavy traffic. The Navigon was money well spent.

Best Uses:

I love this gadget. However, entering addresses is annoying, as you need to go very slow and watch for character entries to be correctly recorded. Also, route planning requires your own knowledge of traffic patterns. Even when "fastest route" is selected, the software looks only at speed limits on roads and is unaware of the many traffic lights on a given route, which brings the overall speed on that route WAY down. I suppose that all GPS are like that, however.
This unit does have spoken street names, which is unusual for GPS at the price paid; a nice feature that I wanted.

I own two of these - one for each vehicle. We love the simple menus and the voice commands. It is sometimes slow on recalculating directions but overall we love this unit and will be purchasing our third as a gift!

I use it for traveling.

Easy to read. Love the night driving feature and 3D.

The buttons are a little small, needs a stylus.
Tends to send you a little out of the way occasionally.
