I AM A DRAPERY INSTALLER THAT DRIVES AN AVERAGE OF 40M PER YEAR ALL OVER SOUTHERN CALIF. MY FIRST GPS WAS THE LOWRANCE I250 WHICH I THOUGHT WAS GREAT BUT THE OMNITECH IS LIKE THE HARE AGAINST THE TURTLE. I HAVE SET IT FOR THE SHORTEST ROUTE AND IT HAS TAKEN THROUGH STREETS THAT I WOULD NEVER HAVE DREAMED OF TAKING AND THIS IS IN AN AREA THAT I AM WELL FAMILIAR WITH. ALSO IT IS VERY QUICK AT RECALCULATING ROUTES. I HAVE ALSO SET IT FOR THE QUICKEST ROUTE AND AGAIN IT HAS TAKEN ME THROUGH STREETS THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE ON MY OWN. THE TEXT TO SPEECH IS GREAT. I HAVE NOT FOUND ANYTHING THAT I DO NOT LIKE ABOUT IT. AS SOME REVIEWS THAT I READ SAY THAT THE OPENING SCREEN IS SPARCE, BUT IF YOUR WANT PRETTY GET A HIGH DEF TV. BUT FOR STRAIGHT FUNCTIONALITY WHICH A GPS SHOULD BE THEN THE OMNITECH IS FANTASTIC.

If you want a basic no frills product to get you
from point a to point b,then you can't do much
better for the money. This unit is sleek, has a
large easy to read display and good sound quality.
No mp3,bluetooth,etc but so far has been accurate for my travels. points of interest seem pretty good as it found me a restaurant in the middle of nowhere without much trouble. As indicated the keypad is small and sensitive and can drive you crazy at first, but I have gotten used to its quirks the more I use the unit and it isn't that big a deal.

Good GPS system for the money. The map software is out of date and needs to be updated. The map is dated 4th QTR of 2006 so it's about a year old. The battery life is only 1-3 hours instead of the 8 hours stated by the manufacturer. It's easy to setup but the menu is OK. The menu for inputting addresses could be better. It just takes time to input addresses cuz you have to do search criteria at a time (e.g. street name, street #, city, etc.) You can't just put in on a whole address. Voice prompt is good. It's about 90% accurate and it gets you where you want to go. Rerouting is also good. I would buy again at this price.

On the whole the unit is a very decent bye for the price.[$] Two things I wished it did or had. On initial start-up I wished it was faster at acquiring satellites, but the unit is very fast at re-routing. Secondly it does not show Points of Interest (POI) on The Map. This is a very nice feature of the Tom-Tom and Garmin. It's does posses a lardGe database of POI.

Just took the product out of the box four hours ago. I left it plugged into a wall socket assuming that it would need to charge first. The instructions give no indication on this. Many attempts to power on the unit hours later have met with failure. I get a indicator light for a short period of time when first plugged in, a small sqwuak from the speaker then nothing! I cannot judge this gps unit because it will not even turn on. I have only read one other review with this situation and I can only assume either I have a faulty unit or or my button pushing skills have slacked off since I was an infant. The short and sweet of its is that I am dissapointed and feel like the unit is a waste time money and effort. With no where to trouble shoot any of this except forums and [...] as well as insufficient infomation in the manual I would have to say I will NEVER purchase this brand agian. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. So all you bargin hunters out there save yourself the frustration and pass this one up.

I bought this GPS for my husband for Christmas. It was on sale and the price could not be beat! It has lots of great features. We love the TTS and it picks up satellite signal quickly. We also love the way it will recalculate your route quickly without insisting on a U-turn. We were in Nashville over New years and ALWAYS get lost and stressed. The GPS was wonderful. . . we took several wrong turns (too many people talking in the car) and we were relaxed as it found a new route. It is a little frustrating that it will go into sleep mode if not plugged in fairly quickly, but more often than not it is plugged in. We even used it in walking mode in Washington DC to see the sites. I wish the POI database was slightly larger but I hope they will put out an update soon. . .

After road testing six other brands of GPS Systems, I have found the Omnitech 4.3 screen to be the best in all aspects. Not only is the screen large but the menus are very friendly and the text to speech is invaluable. It is much easier to hear someone tell you the name of a street to turn on than to be told to turn right in 50 feet and then all of a sudden you are faced with three different choices to turn into. Value wise the price is amazing. This unit is comparable to units costing four times the amount

My first GPS, so I may be overly generous. Printed out the manual (on CD), but haven't explored all the features. Not an MP3 player, but who cares.
What I like: Accurate. Nice clear 4.3" display. Easy to enter destination (using supplied stylus that stores in device). Almost always pronounces street names correcly. Recalculates quickly. Mounts securely. Comes with car and AC chargers and carrying case. Has a walking mode. After just a little practice, very easy to use. Map and voice instructions a lot better than trying to read hard-to-see street signs at night.
What I don't like: Volume control - OK at full volume, inaudible at any setting below. No provision for updating or correcting maps.
Overall: Great basic unit that is simple and accurate, with a few nice features but not all the bells and whistles. Awesome at the low price. Technology keeps getting better. When this breaks or you want new features, you won't have invested much ... or you can just use this lovely bargain for years to come.

I am a Photographer and I use this unit in cities I have never been to before or don't know my way around to locate clients and shoot locations.
I tested several units and this one won out over all the others. One main concern I had was signal acquisition and lock on. This unit locks on in less than 30 seconds from a cold start and holds the signal. You won't get lost but it can be fooled sometimes and misses the exact address but has never let me down. Most of the time it is right on and when it misses it is very close and easy to pick up the destination. An example is this; it tells me when I get home and stops me right in front of my house but tells me the house is on the right when it is actually on the left. Other than this occasional misdirection it works better than any unit I tested. No GPS is going to give you perfect directions because streets constantly change but this has about the best map I have found and locates most obscure addresses in rural locations. This is a great unit and works better than others costing much more. It is easy to read, and holds several address so you can enter several destinations before you leave home then just touch each in turn so you don’t back track all over a city going to several clients. It gives turn by turn directions using street names, the mount has never fallen off the windshield, and it mounts high and out of your way when you drive but still remains easy to reach when you need to enter a new address. All in all I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone who spends a lot of time in unfamiliar cities and towns.

its good product for price. when i bought it, i didn't like it because menus are not user friendly. plus i am not a good reader for manual. I usually don't read it just start doing it. even i haven't read manual for this yet. Anyway, after i know how to enter addresses and store it. its reasonably good. acquires signals even in my room and very quickly. car mount is very coool. overall for price it is very good for me. of course if you are looking very much comfort then u can spend more for Garmin.
Does everything that I need, plus extras

Can get mixed up in neighborhoods with private roads and cul de sacs. Occasionally pronounces street names incorrectly. Generally, very good for the money and comes with so many extras. Wished I had purchase two on sale.
