Cons:
Side road maps
Best Uses:

Bottom Line:

I find that I am taking roads through little towns instead of larger highways around the town. TomTom may calculate that its a shorter route, but I'm on winding roads through "Bob's Town" instead of taking the truck route around on a larger highway. Its a great way to see rural America, but not for those of us impatient drivers. All in all, I trust TomTom to get me wherever I'm going. Even if it is the scenic route. Sometimes if I have a general idea of where I'm going I will ignore Tom and when it gets closer to the address I do what he says. Its a strange relationship, but it works for me!

Product was good to go right out of the box. Put in my address (without reading the instructiuons) and found it to get me the sjortest way home. I didn't choose to go with the reroute option for traffic jams which was the next level up. If I were a salesman, I would.

I use the TomTom for local navigation while travelling, including in France! I bought the eastern european map set for a small amount and my whole extended family used the TomTom to great advantage. Not only that, all the cabs in Paris have TomToms! Back-up and updates are easily done using the TomTom Home software: however, it isn't made clear enough that you should update frequently and it isn't obvious how you move map data sets around or supplement storage capacity.

At first i really loved this system. i downloaded MR. T's Voice, which was cool at first then got very annoying, very fast (Turn Left Fool!) for the most part this device is very good, it has some cool features, its great for maps. once in a while it cant find the location i am looking for, however that is usually because the address has somthing funky going on.like it is on a private road or has two enterances. otherwise it is great, but watch out beacuse sometimes the suction cup on the stand comes un-done and the unit goes crashing to the floor, and i can see how that could cause damage. So i guess i still really love it. PS. when you buy anything from staples ALWAYS buy the protction plan, it might be a little costly, but if anything happens at all, even if you break it you self, they give you all the money you paid for it back.

Cons:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Learning shortcuts and discovering more shops in the local area. Primarily used for driving outside of the local area. Overall, it has to be the best GPS compared to the many other brand name GPS units that I have tried. My only complaint is that a strong adhesive backed velcro sticker was not included for semi-smooth surfaces. The mount included is basically only usable on the windshield of the vehicle; It may not be the ideal place for some vehicles.

I just bought a TomTom and decided that the Mio C310x is better GPS. The only thing missing from the Mio is that it does not have US and Canada loaded together. As for The TomTom, the features don’t match up to the Mio.

The Mio is ready to use right out of the package and it has much more goodies. For one thing, it clicks when you make an entry, menus has much more features, more voice - like recalculations, enter/exit hi-way and satellite is up or missing, better graphics, better voice directions.... The traffic circle or an exit ramps are round in the Mio but are point to point polygon graphic in the TomTom. Also, the routes are better and more accurate with the Mio. Mio is clearly the winner in my case. Go for the Mio unless you are using your GPS in Canada.

After using this device on a regular basis and on several road trips this past summer I can confidently say this is a great gps device. It is very accurate and I've found the maps and POIs to be right on point and useful. I love how the XL clearly explains where and when to turn so you don't have to always look at the screen. This makes navigating in the city very easy. Inputing locations couldn't be easier and it calculates the route in seconds. The battery life is a little short, but I always keep it plugged in on long trips anyways. I definitely suggest this device to anyone looking for an inexpensive SatNav.

This XL Tomtom is a wonderful GPS, its easy to use and I love the larger screen. The directions are very good and now I don't get lost on my trips to the NH mountains.
I do wish it had a longer battery life but once its charged it will last for 4 hours and with the car charger it will go longer until you get to your desternation.
