I liked the Zune at first. The first problems I experienced were almost immediate. The thing would freeze up frequently. Music Downloaded (or ripped off a cd) often skips or stops playing. More recently I noticed that the filing order of the MP3's is being rearranged (especially when I update the Zune software). Bob Dylan shows up as Modest Mouse and vice versa and all sorts of other craziness. A VERY FRUSTRATING DEVICE. WISH I HAD AN IPOD.

I HATE IT! It can't be used with Windows Media Player, which is how I download my audio from Overdrive Media Console. Zune can ONLY use the Zune software--even though WMP and Zune are both Microsoft! So, as "cool" as it is, its truely useless to me! What a waste of money...

iPod killer or low-class mp3 player?
By SWAT DAWGVerified Reviewer from Straight Outta Knoxville (S.O.K.) on 10/31/2007

This product was a hassle from the beginning. Installation takes forever, regardless of your computer speed. You install a program called Zune that is a useless mock-up of Windows Media Player (WMP). The selection on Zune's music is limited and poor video selections. Editing ID3 tags is a [*]. You're better off using iTunes to edit mp3 music. Synching music to your Zune is not much more challenging than iTunes is. But the synching option is very limited. Zune is the worst program I have ever used. I would not recommmend the Zune mp3 player just because of its program used for managing it. Your best bet is saving your money to get a nice Creative Labs Zen or a new iPod Classic. Please do not waste your money on this garbage excuse for a music player. Courtesy of your master... SWAT DAWG. (outty!)

I use it constantly but I love it when standing in long lines. It keeps you calm and cool. I replaced the headsets with the Bose in-ear because I require more bass. When I'm in the Dr.'s office waiting to be seen I watch and listen to movies or concerts. I also can listen to my favorite sports team on the FM radio.

I got the 30gb set up was easy, not my first time. It holds all my songs and then some. It was not charged and ready to go out of box. Its got nice features and nice backgrounds. Of course just spending 200 plus I was excited when it was charged. So I spent some time touring the features and listing to a few songs and the next thing I noticed the battery was dieing quick. I hit the fast foward button and saw the battery life dissaper. What good are the features or the 30gb when the battery is dead. I tried to entertain with it, but friends searching for songs destroyed the battery life, 3 hrs max

Love my Zune! It has been, to me, to be better than advertised & my constant companion. If you are a die-hard video/MP3 phile, you may eventually want to upgrade the hard drive, although after six months, I am only starting to reach the HD's limit. Also, you may want to get the plug-in charger & travel charger as it definitly wants to suck up the power especially when viewing large-file videos/movies.
Display has the best quality I've yet to see outside of a laptop. My friend accidentally dropped his off the seat of my couch & shattered the screen ($150 to replace!!! Ouch!!!). Invest in a good protective case if you think of being active with it...cheap insurance. Definitely not as portable as many competing MP3 players out there, but it blows them away with features & performance!

Micosoft claims the battery life should span at least 16 hours with Wireless turned off, 4 hours if you are watching a movie, and 4 hours if you are viewing pictures. However with my expierience, (ive owned 3 zune) The first thing i do is charge the Zune over night, then the next day i will sync the music i want onto it, which is also very annoying, because as soon as you plug the zune into the pc, the zune software wants to syne ALL OF YOUR MUSIC. then i remove all the pics and all the videos from the device, since they are terrible, and take up space. OK! IM GOING TO STOP RAMBLING, BOTTOM LINE IS THE ZUNE ONLY LASTS 4 TO 5 HOURS WHEN YOUR LISTENING TO MUSIC. PERIOD. ITS A TERRIBLE DEVICE, AND THE ONLY REASON I STILL OWN IT IS BECAUSE I LOST MY RECIEPT AND I CANT RETURN IT.

The Zune is a great little(ok its a little bulky) player with lots of intresting features that I would recommend to my friends.

Unfortunately about a month into having it I fell on it and cracked my screen now pixels are dying and stuff. :( That doesnt go to say that its a bad player, infact I'm sure that if it were that one other player that shall not be named it would have been broken in half. All the other systems of it were A-OK after the fall though.

Now a lot of other people go on about how its so inferior to the other thing that its not worth even looking at. These people are totally biased becasue theyve had that other thing for so long. Yeah the Zune is a little thicker but for the added features its totally worth it.

Some things I would love to see added to it though include a slightly slimmer design, a larger hard drive (Though if you look on the internet for long enough you can do it yourself), a flash version, more support for different video codecs (.avi in particular, converting from that format is annoying), no more "Plays for Sure" junk (AKA 3 days 3 plays, stupid Microsoft) , and total overhaul of the Zune software.

Fortunatly for us, rumors are surfacing on the internet of a couple of new versions of the Zune that will adress many of these problems.

As for that guy who wrote the review and cant spell, why would you listen to a guy who cant take 2 seconds to go back and look over his typing?

This unit is great. Easy set up. These people that have so much trouble getting things to work should not have these things in the first place. It downloads the newest software and firmware and auto installs it. It auto syncs with ease. The best way I have found to load files on the unit is to manually sync. Once your unit is online, right click on the unit name in the left side of the screen and select stop auto sync, from there on just drag the files to the right side of the screen and hit sync below. This way all files go on and stay on. Otherwise you will need to keep all files that you want on the unit to stay on in a directory. If you remove any files from the working dir it will erase the files from the unit. I find the unit preforms very well. The sound is very good, of course i use $350 bose headphones tho. The photo and video quality is excellent. Using the Zune is very easy. It seems to be a rugged unit. Get online and download a video converter to convert the videos to WMV's and you all set to watch dvd's on the Zume! The converter i have is the Zune Video Converter, get it at http://www.dvdvideoconverter.com/zune/download.html

Microsoft gives us a device loaded with features,
most of which you'll find on an iPod. Some features to distinguish itself from its rival inclue, an FM Radio able to read Meta data, A larger screen
for movies/videos, and Zune to Zune Transfering. The FM Radio is neat, but its not often I find myself using it. The larger screen is also a nice idea.. but it doesn't look as good as an iPods. As for the Zune to Zune transfer, its worthless. After 3 days or 3 Plays the transfered material will be gone. The one feature I did like was the changeable background image, makes it a bit more personal.. and Apples iPod is not able to do this.
I've had lots of issues with this device from day one. The software failing on several computers, locking up while synching, slow music trasfers, various unit failures (Missing music, locking up).
I'd steer clear of this device. Besides, Zune v2 will be coming out soon with flash player and various other advancements, maybe some bug fixes as well. So don't get stuck with this, and maybe lookout for the new zune when it hits stores soon.
(or maybe get an iPod?)
