Good but not great!

Pros:

Cons:
Digital Resolution
Best Uses:

Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The problem I have is that when I used the digital cable, I could not get the top resolution (1440 x 900) that was advertised. Only the Analog hookup gets the top (1440 x 900) res. The 1440 x 900) Analog res is Ok, but i would have expected a LCD to be able to display Digital at the top Res rather than analog. Other than that, the monitor is great. And has great looks also!

We use this monitor for an office workstation used mostly for MS Office and Surfing the Web. There is only one resolution for this size wide format monitor that does not distort the picture and at the correct resolution the text and icons are very small. It would be nice to have one additional lower resolution.

I heard all sort of horror stories about using a wide-screen LCD because I have vision issues, but my in-house computer expert (grandson) made adjustments for me and I love the ease of using this monitor. No eye strain, use full width, love the fact that it takes up almost no room at all on my desk. NO DEAD PIXELS. Love the dependability of Dell coupled with the great pricing at Staples. Couldn't be happier. Have to figure out a way to get this monitor at work. Highly recommend!

not a true color monitor
By sys-engVerified Reviewer from Charlotte, NC on 7/21/2008
Pros:
Lightweight
Cons:
Inaccurate Colors
Best Uses:
Dorm Room, Gaming
Describe Yourself:
Quality Oriented
Primary use:
Personal
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This monitor uses a 6-bit panel rather than an 8-bit panel. This keeps the cost down but there is a huge difference in color rendering. An 8-bit true color monitor displays 64 times more colors than the 6-bit monitor.

6-bit/color panel = 262,144 colors
8-bit/color panel = 16,777,216 colors

Monitors using 6-bit panels use dithering in an attempt to simulate colors but that is not nearly accurate enough for photo editing. Dell should be open about this and not omit it from their specifications.

If you do NOT do photo editing on your computer, then this is a fine monitor.

Demands BIOS Update
By LexScriptVerified Purchaser from Summit, NJ on 6/19/2008
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This monitor must run in 1440 x 900 screen mode, which is not supported by my 2-year-old computer running Windows XP. As a result, nothing displays properly (e.g., photos are "stretched"). Ugrading my display adapters did not help. Evidently I must next try upgrading my BIOS. I am not a tekkie, and this has all just been a pain in the neck. Its incompatibility with a relatively new computer made this a BAD PURCHASE for me.

You cannot go wrong with Dell, this is a great monitor. I got this for my son's computer which he does alot of gaming on and it works perfect. He has a expanded graphics card and the picture is truly amazing compared to the last monitor he had. The 3 year warranty is also a major factor that you should consider.

The wide screen was a little difficult getting use to. Wish there was a fit screen option & it would keep everything crystal clear.
