Good monitor for a good price.
By UniversalVerified Reviewer from Sonoma, CA on 9/22/2008
Primary use:
Business
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Bought for business use because old monitor died. Screen is basic, but size and height are good and angle adjusts easily. Colors are bright. Features are nicely located on back and easy to use. Speakers are horrible though, would not recommend for music or gaming but okay for computer related noises. Overall it serves it's purpose just fine for the price I got. AND, contrary to another reviewer, it DOES have a power button.

I use this product for everyday work processing data. Entering data into our goldmine program. That wide screen allows me to slide things off to one side as i need them on screen at the same time just need to have them one side and the other applications running simultaneously on the other side of same screen.

I have had no problems with color. However i can tell you what one review says about not seeing the color difference from green to white every other line as in emails and things. They probably didn't adjust the colors correctly or the contrast correctly. I noticed that straight away too using gmail.com for email service.

This is a great monitor for the money. Just wish the boss would have paid for it instead of me having to. LOL. Will be telling my friends and family about it for sure. No hight adjustment so what its freaking huge. and it leans back and forth. So get over it.

Things that are great its huge cheap and very easy to use.

Things that aren't so great... let you know when i find one believe me i will let you know.

Nice monitor with a sharp, above-average picture and quality construction. It'd be unfair to compare this with my old CRT. Unless you're shelling out the big bucks for an expensive LCD, CRTs will alway win out in the color and viewing angle department, especially when you consider most value LCDs, like this one, are TN panels. There's a trade-off: what you lose in picture quality and color reproduction, you gain in desktop real estate and screen size. For a no-name brand, this is an excellent display--I was very pleasantly surprised.

This monitor does its job, but that is about all. This is the first LCD monitor I have used for my desktop, and it replaces a beautiful 17" CRT monitor. Hence, I was initially extremely disappointed with the display because of the weak colors and glare (both reflected and direct). The instructions do not give enough info about adjusting the display for appearance, nor do they address the user who is moving from a CRT to LCD, so it was a lot of trial and error to get it adjusted so that it gives an adequate, to me, color rendition.

But it serves its purposes, and like a day with 24 hours in it, it is adequate for its purpose. I would not recommend it to anyone doing accurate color renditions or for anyone who needs accurate color calibration.

But it was extremely frustrating to get it adjusted to give an appearance reasonably similar to my old CRT. It surely would be nice if it had some USB ports.

My CRT died and I needed a replacement. Looked at several, read CNET reviews (none on this monitor), and then Staples had a "special". This is such a low quality display that it changes my opinion of Staples -- that they would carry this item.

I use this monitor for basic office work, internet, minor gaming on PC, and I use another one for use with MAC & recording software. Both worked nicely right out of the box, set at max resolution. I have not noticed any issues and enjoy them greatly. As has been mentioned, don't expect much out of the speakers. For someone not listening to multimedia on their computer, the reduced clutter of external speakers may be a plus though. At best, you may only expect to use them for basic system sounds or perhaps listening to speech, but not music. I would equate them to budget laptop speakers. But I didn't buy a monitor for it's built in speakers. I bought it for the widescreen and value for dollar. In the future, I will use a pair of these for a dual monitor setup on my recording system, and likely buy a 3rd one if all goes well.

[...]I bought two of these when [...] first started carrying them last summer, for a price I couldn't refuse (and Yes, I was suspicious with this "No-Name" at first)...but have not regretted either purchase a bit! NO dead pixels, no performance issues, 3 year warranty, dual inputs (Analog AND Digital. but buy your own digital[DVI] cable)...what's NOT to like? [...]I've got about 15 years of corporate I.T. experience, and now Quality Engineer (and electronics tech before all of that), and I am completely happy with the performance and quality of these V7's.

My 15 inch 3 yr old Dell monitor crashed on me so I needed a new monitor quickly. My friend recommended the V7 series or I never would have looked into it. It was on sale and it could be delivered next day.

Overall a great purchase and an excellent value. I like the fact that it has a tilt option and either analog or digitial output - right now I am using analog. Picture is crisp - I had it up an running in less than 5 minutes, and my 13 yr old son is thrilled. I use it for mostly web surfing, but with this great screen I am looking forward to watching movies or online programs -

This monitor is great! It took the place of my 17" Northgate monitor which was aweful (1st generation lcd) but this monitor is awesome! I use it mainly for games and productivity. No ghosting whatsoever. Love the versatility of being able to go back to D-SUB (Im using DVI) its a great complement to my newly built system. Oh, and it is a good energy saver as opposed to the CRT type. The only reason I gave it four stars is because when I first got it, I turned it on and there was a STUCK pixel (Not dead) on the screen. I was horrified, but after it warmed up for a few minutes, the pixel returned to normal and all is well. I reccommend this monitor if you are looking for a quality buy at a low price.

The unit is very lightweight and adjustable, bright, clear image. Don't buy it unless you have extra speakers-the sound is awful and is very hard to hear from because the volume doesn't turn up very high. I bought one for my office use only-which we do not require sound.

I usually buy products I see first but after reading the reviews I felt safe ordering this. What made it nice was the [$]sale price and a coupon. Still I hooked it up to my old computer with a 64MB nVidia MX400 video card. As I went through the different settings for the screen it auto adjusted the picture to find the perfect setting. Now I am getting a new PC for this monitor and I expect better.. With the current computer the words are not crisp. I believe this is due to the video card. On my PC when I upgraded to LCD I too had same distortion but once I got a better video card it all cleared up. So take note if your video card isn't a decent one you won't see the best this monitor has too offer. Also, I am using the D-Sub VGA cable NOT the DVI input. That makes a difference. I would buy this again for sure. [...]

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The first one I received was way too bright after adjusting all the controls and needed to reduce the VGA Card Gamma control which is not right. Ordered a second and noticed it was a RW12 instead of 11 and this time it was properly adjusted. Another unusual problem is the when the monitor shuts off (standby) it takes 4 minutes for the back light to go off completely. No problem but strange & 3 Year Warranty makes me more comfortable. Acer and Viewsonic are the more preferable brands though.

Developed a vertical line in about a month. [...] Its hard to adjust. I also do not get a very clear picture on the screen because my viedo card is not good enough. The original comupter I ordered it for would not work with it at all. That's more my fault for not knowing enough about the equipment, but I had no such problems with an Acer monitor I bought previously.

Overall, this monitor is quite good. Easy to set up.

I have it hooked through a KVM and use it with both MAC & PC. On my PC, I had to update an NVIDIA driver in order to be able to use it at max resolution 1440x900. That's not a problem though, I needed the driver update anyway!

On the mac it worked right out of the box pretty much but I haven't yet doublechecked to make sure it is at max res.

At any rate, the colors are great on this monitor, and I like the look of it. No dead pixels. This is my first flat panel monitor so I cannot compare to others.
