Just hooked it up to my brand new computer (running Vista) today. It works well UNTIL I restart or re-boot my computer. I can't reboot with it connected. If I unplug it, I can reboot. When my computer comes up, I can re-plug it and it works fine.

I wanted a lot of ports since my workstation is tucked away in a rather inaccessible place beneath my desk and this fit the bill. But after only a few months of usage, half the ports suddenly died.
I've yet to find a truly durable USB hub with 4+ ports, so this unit is not alone in its less than long-lasting lifespan. But at least other name brand units I've tried in the past would last over a year or so before flaking out.

I needed something to plug my External harddives into. I had a targus 4-port USB hub, but since I have 5 harddrives, I wanted something I could plug them all into without dealing with the hassle of disconnecting one or more. The nice thing are the two ports on the top. It lets me plug in my microphone for Team Fortress and/or a memory stick. There are cheaper ones out there, but you usually get what you pay for and this hub is no exception.

Now days, there are never enough USB connection points on any computer. This unit sits nicely out of the way and lets me connect all those devices that are sitting all over my desk, and only takes up one connection on my computer. I like the jacks on top of the unit that allow temporary devices to be easily connected with out disturbing the 'permanent' connections.

Great USB hub, but then it fails after a few months. I bought a replacement, and it failed as well. The power stays on, but it no longer passes data - printer not found, computer not responding to keyboard, etc. I figured one unit failing would be bad luck. Two units failing is bad design, and I'm sure yours will fail as well.

Great USB 2.0 hub! Has two ports on top that allow you to plug in thumb drives, and other dongles.
Remember to use the attached power brick! Max power the hub can provide is 500 milliamps (1/2 an amp). Most USB 2.5 inch drives pull 600-650 milliamps!
Hint-plug high power use items directly into the computer, each port can provide 500 milliamps; and printers, UPS's, and thumbdrives into the hub.
Make sure the switch (on the side) is on "self" and not on "hub", this way it will not pull power from your computer.
Also make sure your computer supports USB 2.0 (most new ones do).
Used and abused for over three years.

I have owned this product for a year and a half now and love it. The product comes with all the necessary parts--the unit, USB-A to USB-B cable, AC adapter--something that most printer manufacturers aren't nice enough to do. It works right out of the box and can be installed with minimal computer knowledge.
I have used this product over 1.5 years with Windows XP Pro, Windows Media Center, and Windows Vista Ultimate with no compatibility issues.
I utilize all 7 ports for a range of items--webcam, printer, external hard drive, thumb-drivers, etc--and the unit powers them all fine. I have only had the unit overheat twice, which resulted in my USB devices shutting off. This is more my fault than the units, as all 7 ports were being used for over 3 weeks straight.

7 port hub in a small package is great. Like the top ports for easy access. Unfortunately I had two units fail. A couple of ports died on the first one and it got very hot. Second one seemed OK but then ports would randomly stop functioning. Went back to my old and cheap 4 port hubs which function without issue. Best thing I can say is that Staples is at least easy to deal with on returns.

I have had this unit for about 6 months no with no problem. All the ports are used. I have a cooling fan for my laptop and instead of using the laptop USB to power the fan i use the hub since it does have a power pak with it. The price is right, it has the quality and it's low profile, doesn't get in the way.
