Drivers on CD for windows were needed to be loaded.
Ubuntu automatically found drivers and loaded them. Drivers are activated when adapter is inserted.

Highly recommended for desktop PC setup away from the router that needs an easy wireless connection. The cord was long enough to easily put on a 5 foot shelf with the PC sitting on the floor.

Issue with Vista, Weak signal
Describe Yourself:

I just bought this product yesterday, and I was online in a matter of minutes. There's just one problem. If you use Windows Vista, when your computer comes out of sleep mode, you will lose connection. You either have to restart your computer or unplug your adapter and plug it back in to regain connection. It's a problem with the Vista driver, and Linksys has yet to update it.
Also, my computer is pretty far away from my router, so the signal is very weak. Especially since the adapter is in the back of the computer, you can't move it around to find a hot spot. So if you want a stronger signal, I'd say go with the PCI adapters.
By Mary from Hemet, Ca. on 1/20/2008

I purchased one of these adapters so that my personal computer in my room could have internet access. The main computer in my house has a Linksys router, and my brother has one of these Linksys adapters for his computer, and has had no problems. So I went and got one. Upon installation I found that it is not 64 bit compatible, and that Linksys hasn't yet released a driver so that it can be.
Nobody in my family has had any problems with their Linksys products, and my brother has one of these adapters and it works great (he has windows vista). So I don't think that this is a bad product, just doesn't work with 64 bit (XP pro).

I found it easy to install on Windows XP, and it found my wireless network once I put in relevant security information. There was one option that was supposed to be available in the install software, but wasn't. But when I rebooted the machine, the option was then available and I was able to get everything going just fine.
So far it's been reliable and steady, I've very pleased. I've also been able to use it with Ubuntu Linux. I downloaded an install script from the Ubuntu forums that made it very easy. It was the easiest Linux install of a wireless card that I have ever done.
I'm VERY pleased.
