I purchased this unit for frequent home use for school reports and fun picture projects. I purchased this unit in late May 2008 and now in the middle of September it continues to give me a message that cartridge door is open but it is not! I unplugged it for several days hoping that it would correct itself. No luck! I paid too much money for this kind of malfunctioning. I am so angry and disgusted. Do not buy this printer!

We use this for our home office and personal use. I have been displeased with this printer since approximately two weeks after purchasing it. There were problems with using it due to not being compatible somehow with my Windows security updates. And I am not able to print ANY business cards on it due to the fact that it comes out not properly aligned. I think I have had to throw out about 7 pages of business cards before just giving up.

This might be good for home or school, but it was not nearly fast enough for a physicians billing office. When setting it for faster use, it would not print without wavy lines and was not clear. When trying to highlight it would smear. I do not recommend this for professional use. I took it back to the store.

My HP Deskjet D1455 came with my HP computer from Staples. I needed a scanner and decided on the HP All in one Officejet J5780. Setting up the 5780 blew away the 1455's software and I soon had no working printers. HP technical service spent 4 hours to get it running and now both printers are unreliable due to software troubles.
I don't know if it's Microsoft VISTA or the HP drivers but both of thes companies need to work out the problems and not dump it on the public.

Took a while to set up, still having issues with the fax component. As a scanner it's preety great, digital imaging software is fairly straightforward. Only problem: it goes through SO MUCH ink and is significantly slower than any of our other printers (including a very simple and basic Brother and a larger Canon all-in-one). Don't try to print any Excel sheets using this- the presentation will be over and you'll still be standing at your desk.

I've done faxing, copying, scanning and printing all with great success and ease. I've been using it about a month and no paper jams, or glitches so far. The ink supply seems to be lasting well.
The only complaint is that I have to move the printer almost entirely out of the cabinet in order to raise the cover to place something on the glass.

Although it was fairly easy to set up, the reference pictures were so small and indistinct, that it was difficult to see exactly what and where I was supposed to plug things in. Still figuring out how it all works--I would prefer a basic manual for quick reference for trouble-shooting or basic operation and what each setting/option does. I looked at so many printers, I didn't realize until I got home that there were no card-reader slots for direct printing. That was a little disappointing, but the rest seems to work fine--if I can get it all figured out!! I've been doing a lot of trial and error.

This NEW HP 5700 was so simple to setup, plug it in and you are on your way. I use it daily. Its lightning fast compared to the HP 4110 it replaced, and I love the fact the scanner is a flatbed.
