This is a really nice all-in-one printer. I had an HP Desk jet and a separate scanner before. I know that HP is a good product. I like having everything in one component. It's easy to use and much faster than my old printer and scanner. I like being able to copy and fax too. It prints good quality documents and images. This one has a wireless set up and double sides also.

Great machine...I replaced a slower, less efficient, non-Wifi printer with this one. Works great, but black ink seems to go quickly even when just using draft or fast, efficient print setting. It also tends to be a little loud on that one setting. Other than that,no complaints.

This all-in-one printer is great for my home office! One thing disappointed me very much - the networking setup. Once I put this printer on my home network, I expected to be able to print from any computer/laptop that was already on my network. In actuality, however, I had to temporarily connect (with a cable provided) each computer/laptop to the printer and install drivers to the computer/laptop to finalize the connection. This was a one-time setup but it was a pain to have to carry the printer to each desktop that was scattered around my house. So if you have desktops I would suggest you look at other networking printers but those with laptops shouldn't have much of a problem.

Dual-sided printing is very nice. Cartridges are easy to change. Good photo print quality even on non-photo paper.
Software tells me where the ink levels are, when they're getting low, and seems to be tied in really well so far. Aligns cartridges without needing me to put the page on its glass to scan.
It's the best HP printer I've bought over the last 10 years so far. Granted, I've had it less than two months.
Haven't used a lot of features. Takes up some space although I'm not sure how it would take up any less.
Kodak can talk about lower ink, but the higher paper costs surely eat into that. The 5500 requires top quality paper for photos or they get streaks and look worse than draft quality and cheap paper out of my old HP printers. The Kodak ink smells like a lab and burns my nose and gives me headaches.
No funky lab-odor out of this HP printer. I changed from the Kodak to this and I'm happy with this.
Only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is I haven't used all the other features (I don't fax much let alone scan). For what I've used it for, it is really nice.

What I love most about this printer is the double sided printing, which I used to have to do by hand. Just one click and the printer does it for you! No more hand feeding paper through so that the other side can get printed and no worry about making mistakes by feeding paper in the wrong order, upside down or backwards.
The main drawback is the double sided printing feature is slow. It prints one side, spits out the paper 95% of the way and then does what can best be described as "sitting and thinking" about what to do next. After a couple of seconds, it pulls the paper back in and prints the other side. So it can take considerable time if you need to do multiple copies of the same thing. (It then becomes faster to use the photocopier).
What was best about this was the first time I had to use double sided printing, it was so EASY to figure out. I had dreaded it because on many machines, figuring out how to take advantage of so-called time saving features can be more aggravation than it's worth. But this was very simple. Hit "print" and when the dialog box comes up, go into "properties" and click the box for doublesided printing -- and a multitude of other options.
The other nice feature is that it is wireless. Except for plugging into the power source, there are no ugly cables to manage -- especially helpful since I have a laptop and don't have to unhook the printer cable every time I want to take the laptop somewhere.
I have yet to use all the features of this printer. I hope to find all are this easy.

Use it to print court transcripts, translations, letters and other home-use printings. The Staples Reduced price made purchasing within my budget; however, HP went beyond their capabilities to create a wreckless software package to supposedly work with this machine. Techs in Philapines try hard to help, but software won't work right. More than seven "clean" installations, still will not work without flaws. My machine you say? New with Windows Vista Ultimate. Everything else works without a problem, only the HP software won't work. I settled for using the printer driver only. Still trying to get all functions to work right.

Good value for what you get--especially if on sale. Performs well--fast, great graphics, copies, etc. Easy setup and good software package. HP is best all-around printer for AIO's--best color rendition of original photos when scanned. Ink utilization seems worse than prior models...need to improve that. Performs better than the "02" cartridge series in terms of "naked eye" resolution. Choose HP and you can't go too wrong!

Needed a 4 in 1 and it was on sale. Printer works very good has lots of useful features like caller ID when hooked to the an equiped phone line, double sided printing, large paper tray, memory card slot. My biggest grip is the control panel is all black with white lettering. No color or border distinctions for the different functions so it takes a minute to find things. The functions are grouped but just not very aesthetic. Although possible to print envolopes with the paper in, it works better removing the paper.

Now that we (3) are using the wireless printer and really enjoy it, the ink is just going to be too expensive and will probably return to using an older laser wired printer we already have for the heavier inked items.
I would recommend it only if you do very little printing or don't mind the cost of the ink or have multiple printers to decide which to use.
