Installed on two machines, one running vista and the other running 2000.

Installing drivers was a breeze on vista, and setting up wireless network also was easy.

However, everything went downhill from there.

Although HP claims that they support windows 2000, it is NOT supported. If you try to download and run the basic drivers wizard from the HP website, it will halt and tell you that you need to upgrade your operating system. End of story.

If you download the full install, the wizard will finish without generating any error messages, but it will only print. No scanning (Unless you use the embedded web server via your browser), no fax, nothing except printing. And it also broke Photoshop and Acrobat. Photoshop wouldn't even initialize until I removed the HP drivers.

After 3 days of working with HP chat, I finally got one of the technicians to explain how to set it up with alternate drivers. This solution allowed me to print, while not breaking Photoshop. I wasn't able to duplex print, however...

So I tried duplexing from the vista machine. But I still got an error message saying that the automatic duplexing module was not installed! Another call to HP support, only to find out that... automatic duplexing isn't supported in vista!

What a surprise. HP seems to think that customers should buy operating systems to support HP drivers; rather than writing their drivers to support their customer's OS.

It appears that the only OS that are supported are mac and XP. If you're using anything else, beware!

I have owned at least 7 printers (all of them HPs) and this one is absolutely the worst. I have been unable to set it up to operate wirelessly, it jams constantly and I get messages that it is low on ink when I have just changed the cartridge. The print quality is good when you can get it to work, but that is not often. HP's tech support has been useless. I will never buy another HP again because of my experience with this machine.

This machine is kind of like a very rigid, older aunt who you need help from before you do any job. It takes forever to do things and it needs a lot of hand-holding. For instance, it takes almost 30 seconds to copy one page - and this is in fast draft mode! If you get a paper jam, you have to remove the BACK of the machine to get it out. It is really hard to pull out jams the front and the documentation says that doing so can permanently break the machine. But pulling a jam out the back inevitably requires moving the machine (hard - it is big and sits in a special cubby in my desk). It takes abotu 20 minutes to clear a jam. And it jams a lot more than you would like. (Compared to my old HP, it is incredibly jam-prone.)Also, if one of the colors of ink runs out, it won't let you just print in black and white. Instead it gives you warning message after warning message for each print job. You even have to push a button on the printer itself to release the job. This is all a big pain in the butt. I would not purchase this printer if I could do it over again.

The software install package was full of issues. It has messed up my PC. I spent 3.5 hours on the phone with HP help with no solution. I called a repair person and he provided some help but it is not 100% fixed. I keep getting a window that wants to install a file that is not on the install disk. The IT person that helped me said that this is typical of HP install disks.
I am just a lonely cunsumer and I do not expect any satisfaction but I will never buy another HP product.

It's good while it works. I bought this only because another brand doesn't carry a similar product. I bought this to replace one I bought a year ago that HP refused to replace after it had a repeated ink carriage malfunction that eventually left it unusable after only a year of use. If the ink carriage remains functional, it prints great photos and is easy to scan and fax. software was easy to install.

This is one terrific printer. It's fast, clean and very easy to use. I read the reviews before I purchased and thought that I'd have trouble installing it. The installation with my PC was very easy. However, I also own a Mac G4 Laptop. The installation on the Mac is a bit more complex.

The wireless connection is wonderful! No more dragging a cord to my computer, just hit print and it prints. It's also very quiet. And it's a compact design. It doesnt' take up a ton of space.

Just be aware that it doesn't hold a lot of paper so you'll need to make sure you don't run out

I am a Network Admin and have been for 18 years. I have always been skeptical about All-In-One devices until I bought this one. It DOES EVERYTHING a home or home business user would ever need. It is extremely easy to use, has high input and output quality. Works wonderfully on cross platforms (Mac & Windows), it's built sturdy and to last. The cost of ownership (cost of ink / pages yielded from ink) is great. The setup was a snap (even for non-techie individuals) and comes with a great suite of software. My dad, who owns a small stock brokerage, purchased the "business model" (HP OfficeJet L7680), which is supposed to be designed for small business use and, in my opinion, this model blows it out of the water. I know that cost is an issue with a lot of people, especially now a days with this economy, and this printer is a little on the high side but IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY! You could buy something less expensive but I guarantee you will be replacing it within the first year. This is a printer that you buy and it will outlast your computer. To sum it up and I can not emphasize it enough, BUY THIS PRINTER! You will NOT be disappointed.

Having read some of the reviews of this product I thought I'd have a problem with setup. While it did take awhile, it wasn't a difficult process at all (this MIGHT be because I didn't need to network it, just USB it to my home computer which I would recommend). It's photo printing is excellent! I like the option of directing it not just from my computer but also from the unit itself. Photocopying is quick and easy. It does take it a minute to wake up when you turn it on but I don't find that annoying. This printer also has a decent rating as an all-in-one in a consumer magazine. I definitely recommend it.

[...] the file digitlmg corrupted our computer and we had to completely re format it to get rid of the file. was not happy about that at all.I would not recoment this printer to anyone.

customer service through staples was exceptional in there help and support to get the problem resolved.. HP customer service and tech support was not. after 6 hours on the phone with one tech support the problem got worse. then I was told it was not a HP file or a HP problem.. it was a computer issue.. a quick call to my computer tech a goolge search of the file digitlmg.msi and error 1706 confirmed it was an HP file and an HP issue..

Great for double-sided printing; print quality is fine. The wireless connection is awesome! I can station it anywhere in my home and print from laptop or desktop.

I've printed hundreds and pages, and haven't seen a noticeable drop on the ink levels yet. Ink cartridges are cheap (about $10-$15).

    Scanner worked very well.

Problem: when duplex printing, I keep getting a pop-up error that the duplex unit is not installed. I just click through the error and duplex printing works fine, UNFORTUNATELY, this error comes up for every job. So you have to wait until the previous job is printed to start the next one. I've looked around and found I am not alone with this problem, but none of the solutions have worked for me.

Printing is slow, but this doesn't matter to me, I just send large jobs before I leave the room; doesn't work so well for multiple duplex printing jobs though (see above).

The HP software for scanning photos is fantastic! I was able to take some old photos from the 70s (you know, the ones that have turned gold/yellow?... I know you have some of those too!) and turn them into great copies that are color/light-balanced and adorable! Takes away that 70s-feel... but gold photos are over-rated anyway.

I love the fact that I can print from my laptop in the living room to the printer in the office! The print quality of documents and photos is very nice for an ink-jet printer.

It faxes well, although I can't figure out how to get a confirmation page to print.

It makes great copies on a flat-bed copy screen.

And it gives helpful details when you encounter a problem.

MY HUSBAND AND I PURHASED THIS COPIER. I WAS VERY HAPPY WITH IT'S USE. WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR, ONE OF THE INK CARTRIDGES CLOGGED, AND WE TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE. THE WARRANTY COVERED IT IN FULL. NOW THE COPIER IS OUT OF WARRANTY, THE BLUE INK CARTRIDGE IS NOT WORKING, (THIS IS LESS THAN 6 MONTHS FROM THE FIRST REPAIR). WE WEIGHED OUR OPTIONS AND DECIDED TO GET ANOTHER BRAND OF COPIER RATHER THAN PAY FOR REPAIR ON THIS ONE. ALTHOUGH I LOVE THE NEW COPIER, I MISS THE SIZE OF THE INK CARTRIDGES THAT ARE IN THE "BROTHER COPIER".I NOW HAVE TWO PRINTERS, I STILL AM USING THIS PRINTER FOR MAKING COPIES IN BLACK. (I DO LOVE THIS PRODUCT) I DO HOPE SOMEDAY TO HAVE THIS ONE REPAIRD.
