I'm on my second machine. The first one jammed and overheated after very short usage. The second machine seems fine after about 1 year of light daily use. I'm afraid to put too many sheets in at one time since it seems to bog down. After getting the second machine I decided to take the first one apart. I found the reason for the failure of the first machine and it was the plastic guide that cleans the paper from the cutter blades. It seems some panes of plastic broke off the guide and jammed in between the cutters. That in turn broke another plastic piece that keeps the rollers at a set distance from each other. In total 3 pieces to replace and have it working like new. Unfortunately, was told I can't get the parts from the manufacturer and costs to ship and repair come out to more than a new machine. Feel like I wasted my money on the first one. Hope the second one will work a long time.

Shred any mail with personal info on it, identity theft is spooky at best. Can do credit cards and at least three plus pages at a time. But after a several minutes of shredding it does overheat and occassionally jams.

I was very disappointed in the quality of the shredder. I had bought cheap shredders in the past and they quit working after a while but since I paid a lot more for this one I was disappointed that it quit working shortly after I bought it. I only shredded a couple of sheets maybe once or twice a week so it was not overused. I did like the size of the bin though.

Nice compact item that fits anywhere because is the size of a trash can (classroom size) and provides great power. I use this at home, and as long as I don't have too much to shred at one time, it'll be fine and not overheat. One of the major drawbacks I found was that if the top cover moves or becomes ajar, the cover will not come in contact with the safety connections, and thus not work without removing & replacing cover a few times.

I shred all my mail including envelopes when I am done with it. Consequently this shredder gets a fair amount of use. In the past 18 months I have purchased this same model 3 times. The capacity and material listed as being in the ability of this product to process has been followed. The common failure has been broken gears. I am now ready to replace it once again. I will not buy another of this type.

This is very fast, shreds several papers at once. It does shred credit cards but doesn't have a designated area just for the cards.

I like the fact that this shredder can shred CDs and credit cards. I also like the cross-cutting feature. The only problem I have is that the shredded items do get caught in the teeth and it gets a little messy to empty.

Shredder motor "died" after 5 months of moderate use (couple of times a week for 5 minutes). Since it still is under warranty, I sent it out for repair the other day. We'll see. Otherwise, I was happy with it while it lasted.

this shredder is horrible. it was used on a daily basis, if you consider two days daily, then the motor broke. i have tried to return it to the store and was told they could not help me. no money back, no return, no switch, no sending it out to be fixed. i am very displeased with staples and their customer service. besides the machine being broke, it has other faults as well.
it is very messy unless you always have bags on hand. the shredder puts out alot of paper dust when shredding. it does not hold the paper capacity that it says it does. jamming is a problem and turning on the reverse to get your paper out sometimes doesn't work either.
when i first bought it i thought it was great. when it broke two days later and i tried to bring it back, i was very dissapointed. now all i have is a broken machine taking up space in my office. i guess the next try would be to contact the company. thanks for all your help staples!!!

For the price, its a great value. It looks lovely in my home office. However, like most cross-cut shredders at this price, it is noisy and can't handle big jobs. We have a really good shredder at work, but the price difference is significant. Dollar for dollar, this is a great buy.
