Can not handle NYC returns.
By Hello World

Cons:
Miscalculated tax by 3k
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
The software was unable to handle my New York taxes. It miscalculated my tax liability by about $3,000. After calling H&R Block they confirmed that the figure was incorrect and did not know how to resolve the issue. They had me manually override the inaccurate figures with the correct ones. What is the point in having the software if you need to manually correct its mistakes? Thankfully I am a licensed CPA and I caught all of the errors.

Pros:
Easy To Install, Powerful, Versatile
Cons:
Print pages out of order
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Package works well. But a bit more difficult to get around than I remember from previous versions. MUCH less advertising interruptions! But, forms pages still print out w/ back pages on wrong forms. Due to printing instructions, and state payment voucher w/o blank back pages.

Bottom Line:

This program does ask a lot of questions. However, at times it justs asks a question and expects you to know what it is talking about. I found the help screens not always helpful. I've also found when it checks for errors, it states errors that do not exist and it does not give you a way to try to correct their error.
Another thing is that it told me that I only had to file a Federal and one state return, however, while asking me questions it asked for information from a "non-resident state" return that it said I didn't have to file.
I am very disappointed.
Making out taxes is a breeze.

we've been using Taxcut for about 10 years and they still have not fix the recalculation of taxes.... when we go back in the form to add or subtract new numbers, there is no easy button to hit for recalculation ... only find out if we actually printed the return and look at all the forms for accuracy... c'm on ... it's spreadsheet like shouldn't the calculation on new information be more automatic????

Cons:

Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
This product did not save the tax file in PDF form. I kept getting this annoying error message that the printer settings were not set at at least 300x300, which my printer was. Saving a file in PDF form is a basic feature, which Turbo Tax offers. I also called Tax Cut's help line, but the customer service person could not fix the problem, referred it to someone else, and later I received this form e-mail that they needed more information. Very annoying that Tax Cut can't figure this out.
Also, this program does not download information from brokerage firms/statements. I previously used Turbo Tax and it offered this feature.
I have used Tax Cut for my 2006 and 2007 returns, but I will be switching back to Turbo Tax next year because of the issues mentioned above.

I've used TaxCut for years. It's easy to use. When I've had questions about something, the HELP feature sufficiently answered my questions. The Deduction Pro allows you to enter your donations and keep track of them. It much more less expensive than going to an H&R Block center.
I've used H&R Block Tax Services in the past. One year I owed $200 to the Federal Government, and it cost me $220.00 to have my taxes prepared. That is when I decided to use Tax Cut, considering that all the H&R Block Tax Preparer did was enter the information I provided and the software calculated my options.
This is definitely the way to go, unless your taxes are so cumbersome and involved that you need a highly specialized professional.
