Handibond Glue

Brand:
Handibond
Clear all
Handibond glue is a fast-acting liquid adhesive sometimes referred to as super or instant glue. It is generally clear, varies in thickness, and adheres and dries within seconds. The glue also holds a variety of different materials. Handibond creates a very strong bond, yet you can sand or shear it away easily, making the adhesive useful for many industrial and household projects. Because it applies precisely and doesn't drip, it is a favorite for jewelry making, model building, and other crafts projects. Staples® carries several sizes of Haribond glue along with other office supplies.

Handibond Glue Options
Handibond offers glue in thin, medium, thick, and gel options. These vary in curing times as well as viscosity. Thick and gel products have slightly different base formulas that make them dry in 15 to 90 seconds, while the thin version applies in a slight layer and dries in only 2 to 5 seconds. Handibond medium is the most versatile, being thick enough to stay in place without dripping, but thin enough to spread easily. The medium adhesive adheres to both smooth and rough surfaces in 3 to 10 seconds.

Consider the Surfaces When Choosing a Handibond Glue
All of Handibond's products have the ability to affix hard to connect substrates such as balsa, fiberglass, and stone, but different surfaces benefit from different viscosities. Thin glue has a low viscosity and is best for smooth, tight-fitting surfaces. The thick and gel form have much higher viscosities and can bond more porous materials as well as fill in gaps. Gel is particularly good at adhering poorly mated surfaces and very porous materials. For general home or office use, the medium product is an optimal choice, as it has a moderate viscosity and a fast but not immediate drying time. It can adhere to substrates like wood, metal, plastic, and ceramic.

Why Does Handibond Glue Dry So Quickly?
Handibond adhesives contain an acrylic resin called cyanoacrylate. This substance undergoes a chemical reaction with water and creates long, durable chains that adhere surfaces together. Simple atmospheric humidity is sufficient for this process. When applied in a thin layer, the glue begins to set within seconds and dries to a tight bond in less than a minute.

What Is the Best Way to Remove Handibond Glue?
Despite its very strong connection ability, users can remove instant glue from most surfaces with a light sanding or paint remover, such as acetone. Cutting or shearing might be more effective for certain materials. Should an adhesive accidentally come into contact with skin, simply scrub with sugar or salt.

How Should You Store Handibond Glue?
The cyanoacrylate ingredient that gives the adhesive its rapid bonding property also gives it a potentially shorter shelf life. Most last about a year from the manufacturing date when unopened. They should also keep for a month once opened, when stored under normal home or office conditions. To keep any Handibond adhesive usable longer, avoid moisture by storing it in an airtight container with silica packs, or below 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
