If your company’s holiday cards haven’t shipped yet, you’re not alone. The U.S. Postal Service expects to deliver nearly 2.5 billion pieces of mail during the week leading up to Christmas Day, and plenty of them will be last-minute cards.
While it’s true that time is tight, you can still get your business greeting out the door. Use these tips to successfully manage the process.
Don’t give up
You really can quickly create and send a holiday card that the customers, vendors and employees on your list will appreciate. Save time by ordering cards with a preprinted message inside, and use same-day printing to complete your greetings as soon as possible. You can also ask your printing partner to preaddress the envelopes and add your return address.
If you plan to send your cards with first-class stamps, the U.S. Postal Service recommends getting them in the mail by December 20 (a few days earlier if they’re going to Alaska or Hawaii). If you also have last-minute client gifts that you’re planning to ship, save time and money by tucking your greeting into the box before you seal it.
Sweat the details
Doing last-minute work doesn’t mean the quality of your holiday message needs to suffer. Use a card template to get a jump start on your design, and drop in your logo or a photo to personalize your greeting. Keep the quality up by using high-resolution images so they reproduce clearly. Increase your card’s elegance by adding festive foil highlights and printing it on premium paper. Ask your printing partner for help to make sure the final product looks great.
Divide and conquer
If others on your team are available, ask them to help you quickly complete card-related tasks. One person can gather addresses, for example, while you nail down the layout or search for the right image. Also plan team schedules so don’t lose a minute once your cards are printed. Once your cards are ready, have people help stuff envelopes or add a brief note to cards for extra-special recipients.
Consider a New Year’s card
If you need just a little bit more time to make everything happen, consider sending a New Year’s greeting. Your message will be separated from the holiday onslaught, and the people on your list may have more time to enjoy it after the hubbub of the season.
