Routines to Stay Sharp — Wherever and Whenever You’re Working

Create a daily routine that keeps you focused, productive and mentally healthy.

If your team is still working from home, reduced face-to-face collaboration may come with harmful side effects. Social isolation can lead to increased anxiety, disrupted sleep and a state of constant distraction. The lack of structure also causes breakdowns in the typical routines we’re used to when working in the office.

A routine keeps us mentally healthy, so it’s worth the time to establish one regardless of where you’re working. What should you include in your work routine? The habits that promote well-being: physical activity, healthy meals, breaks, social connection, good hygiene, cleaning.

Take it from two organization and productivity experts: Lisa Zaslow, founder of Gotham Organizers, and Janine Adams, certified professional organizer with Peace of Mind Organizing.

“If you’re checking off some of those boxes, even if it’s just a few minutes at a time, that will combat some of the negative stressors,” Zaslow says.

In this infographic, Zaslow and Adams offer activities you can use to create your own routine, while two sample schedules help you get started.

“Everyone’s day is different,” Adams says. “It’s going to be up to the individual, but I do think that putting structure in your day by doing things at certain times is a great idea.”
