Can I deduct phone bills?

Q: I use my home phone for business when I'm not at the office. Can I deduct any of the phone bills?

A: The basic cost of the first phone line to your home is nondeductible (even if you were to use the phone primarily for business). However, any additional costs you incur for business can be deducted, such as business long–distance charges or call–forwarded from your home to your office. Monthly Internet charges for business use can also be deducted.
