Reaching all your members
Q: I'm an officer in a non–profit computer club. With all the SPAM filters now available, both on the ISP's and on the user browsers, what is the best way to make sure we can reach all our members by E–mail using a mass mailing?
A: There isn't any 100% sure way to reach everyone, but you can increase your accuracy:
- Make sure the server you are sending from is not on a list of banned domains. Check the header of messages that bounce back. If your domain is banned, the header will often list the site with the database that has you on a black list.
- Avoid terms in your subject line that are commonly used in unwanted commercial email. Terms like FREE and PROFIT are often used in email programs to filter out junk email.
- Put your message on a Web page that is frequently updated. Tell subscribers to check the page from time to time to make sure they haven't missed important information.
