Getting the attention of decision-makers

Q: I am an architect and need to reach new customers for office design projects. How do I get the attention of the decision–makers regarding the service I provide?

A: Do something different! Normal letters and telephone messages won't get you noticed. If you want to be noticed, and apparently you do, you need to stand out from the crowd. Use some humor in your communications. Leave an entertaining message on telephone voicemail so they will want to call you back. If everyone is zigging, you zag.
Don't make it easy for them to say no to you. Instead of just sending a regular letter, send it in a box, write it on a plate, tie it to a group of balloons. If this sounds like too much, remember one thing: people usually hire people who are different than the rest. Good luck!
