I seldom write reviews. I was just checking to see if the 2 5' cherry shelves I had on backorder were in stock yet, and read some of these reviews.
I ordered one of the 5' oak over a year ago. Put it together and been using it since. Liked it so much, when I noticed they were on sale again (50%), I ordered another 5' oak, 2 5' cherries, and a 4' cherry. Got the oak and small cherry. Assembled them, and everythings fine, except for the backorder. When I ordered the first 5 footer, it arrived with one of the sides broken (shipper handling). All it took was a phone call, and a return/replacement was handled efficiently.
Word of caution. As I saw someone else make reference to the spacing of the center shelf. Unless you want the shelves offset, DO NOT put the center permanent shelf in the MIDDLE. Be careful with the spacing. Plan out where you want your shelves. The center one is NOT ADJUSTABLE, so figure carefully. I didn't realize this with the first one I put together, and wasn't about to take it apart and redo it. Once you start putting your shelf together, you'll know what I mean.
For my use, one more shelf would have come in handy.
All in all, I heartily recommend.

For the money it's a pretty sturdy case. A bargain compared to similar bookcases sold elseware. Easy and fast to put together. Just remember the center shelf is a support shelf and is perminently screwed into the sides so you will have uneven spacing between shelves if you position the center shelf exactly in the middle of the top and bottom. You will have 3 adjustable shelves. So 2 will be above the center and 1 will be below, or visa versa. Overall, very satisfied.

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
While it may look nice from the outside, this shelf is not made to support weight. After putting it together I was positioning it against the wall, and the middle support shelf completely broke off nearly destroying the backing in the process. Furthermore, with a set of records on it, the shelves are bowing with the weight. This is not a good product. That's not to mention that the edges of the fake wood covering are cut so roughly that it could cut someone and the holes in the support shelves were not completely drilled through (I had to finish the job myself). It may be cheap, but you get a barely functional shelf in the process. Save yourself the hassle and buy something made of solid wood, or at least constructed better than these.

I have three of these bookcases in my room. I like the look and the color but I noticed with this last one I bought that there was no protective packaging in the box and because of this there was minor scratching on most pieces of the wood. The screws that were used are plastic not metal which I thought was kind of flimsy. These bookcases are overall pretty good but you get what you pay for.

I just bought this 2 weeks ago when I moved to a new university apartment (furnished but without a bookcase). This is a very practical and nice-looking bookcase for students on a tight budget, relatively easy to assemble following the instructions, I assembled most of it on my own, then asked two guys to help stand the thing up and move it to the corner of the room. You do want to put heavy stuff at the bottom of the case, and lighter stuff in the upper shelves, because the case is tall and you want to keep the gravity center low (especially my bedroom floor isn't all flat, it kind of has a slope). Best of all, I got it on sale for a REALLY good price, one of my roommates is actually jealous because for the same money she only got a 2-shelf bookcase. I would recommend it to anyone.

This bookshelf is very handsome. I am a woman and this bookshelf was very easy for me to put together myself. I was very pleased to see that it was made in the USA! How many products do you see these days that are? Not many! This bookshelf only cost [$] but looks more expensive[...]! It has 5 shelves, 2 permanent and 3 adjustable, which is great. I use it for books, magazines, 45 RPM records, (remember those?) CD's, and collectible figurines. I have it in my craft room and it looks beautiful. It even came with a strap to attach to the back of the bookshelf and the wall to protect it from falling in case of an earthquake. Someone did their homework when designing this bookshelf. I am very pleased and would recommend this to everyone.

I didn't expect high quality stuff at the price I paid, but did expect it to be fully boxed! When I came home & found the delivery on my porch, the box was opened on one end and I found a couple of small scratches. The 2nd shelf I received (delayed in delivery) was even worse! And it was left laying on my porch. If the rain had started earlier, the product would have gotten soaked through! The "hardware" on the 2nd shelf was plastic, too!! Kinda hard to get to tighten when I was attaching shelves to the sides. But they look pretty good in my home office and do the job.

I bought four of these on sale for [$]each. I'm using them to display books + a few other items. They're fairly sturdy, at least as far as holding things. I've got carpeting, and since they're not that deep, I'm worried a good hit could knock them over. They come with a strap to hold them to the wall, but it's not necessary unless something could knock them over. The only time I'd see the strap being necessary would be for child/animal-proofing.Both sides (top/bottom) of the shelves are laminated, so the only place you can see the particle board is from behind the whole unit.I was looking for cheap shelving to hold some books and dvds, and these do the job just fine.

I have no reservations about my purchase. Bought it for myself for last Christmas to neatly store stuff that has been lying around on the floor. The shelves are wide enough to hold some very large Lego kits my sons built or ANY book (including the large Atlas books or an unabridged dictionary (though I'd suggest putting them on the bottom shelf). Bookcase IS heavy and you may need help standing it up after you assemble it. That same weight makes me also suggest that you use the included anchor tether to attach it to a stud (not drywall) to keep it from tipping over. Although 3 shelf heights cannot be changed, it is easy to change the others.

The directions for assembly are very easy to follow. You don't need a lot of tools--just a screw phillips screw driver and a small hammer.
Even though the actual sides and shelves are particle board, This is well hidden with a very thin veneer that makes the book case look like oak.
I use the book case to store my cd's and dvd's, as well as games and other miscellaneous things. One thing I really like is that the shelves are adjustable, so you can choose where to put them. I just wish there were a couple more shelves.
In my opinion, this is a very good bookcase for the money.

I can store about 1-2 text books on each end before the shelf starts to bend. If you are buying the item to strictly store books, I would recommend a higher priced, well-constructed bookcase. On the other hand, if you just need to store light weight items, this one works great. It was easy to put together and nice visually. My only complaint is the backing. It's cardboard, faux wood, made to match the shelves and sides. Unfortunately, it looks very much faux and very much cardboard. Overall, I'm happy with it. It works well with my recycled furniture in a college-style apartment. [...]

We had a fairly large wall space next to our fireplace and thought about have custom shelving made (costly). We used two shelving units on each side of the fireplace; I'm going to connect them with some brackets I bought elsewhere, to make them more sturdy and secure. They look good and will serve our needs quite well. I wish they had been a few inches wider to avoid a small amount of wasted space, but with premade they came very close.

Very happy with purchase but small capacity because don't expect to fill the shelves. Each shelf can hold about 20 lbs of books. Bottom shelf can hold 35 lbs (mine's holding 40 lbs). Unless you have all paperbacks, you won't fill the middle and top shelves.

A few years ago we ordered about 20 of these book shelves and they have served us well. Our church library displays very nicely using this shelving. The price is very reasonable. [...]
Use the wall attachment, will tip over.
