I had a heavy, metal, electic sharpener that I used for about 30 years. I had trouble finding a replacement that was reliable & reasonably priced until shopping at Staples. The plastic casing is a caution but it does the job.

I use the product at work for school students. It's great because it sharpens 1,2,3. The students don't have to wait in line. They are in and out.
I guess it could be a little bigger.

This is a replacement for one I had for 15 years. It was also a Boston and the reason I purchased Boston again. The standard yellow pencil had trouble fitting in the hole and getting a good point on the pencil. I am not sure it will even take the round ones.

Tried to sharpen an 8 pack of pencils. By the 5th pencil the motor was binding down and couldn't sharpen the 5th pencil. After waiting an hour it was able to sharpen 5th,6th and 7th pencil and binded down on the 8th pencil.

I thought i saved money by buying this sharpener on sale, but I don't feel that great about the purchase now. The pencil is being sharpened over and over again to get an even point.

Students use it at school. One of these will last most of a school year. After about 6 months, it doesn't sharpen as quickly or as well

Product works very well. Points are very sharp. Does well resharpening broken points. Sharpener stutters if pencils are entered with more than a certain amount of force but to date (about 2 months) has never failed to work.

My 5-year old uses it regularly for sharpening normal pencils for school as well as colored pencils for her art projects. She is able to use it all on her own without problems. I would recommend this product. A good buy for our family!

This sharpener works very poorly. It brings the pencil to a point, but it isn't centered correctly, so the point may end in wood or have wood all along the side. No matter what I've tried, it simply won't sharpen the pencil properly. For what I paid, I expect much better results.

I like the pencil sharpener because it clearly slows down when the pencil has been sharpened. This avoids lead breakage.

It is very difficult to get the pencil alignment in this machine. Would not carry this line of merchandise.

we tried to sharpen the kids' pencils for back to school but had to keep stopping after 5 to allow the motor to cool down...we had SEVERAL pencils to sharpen so this took up a LOT of time!! Very SORRY product...

This sharpener is powered by way too weak el. motor. A normal pressure on the pencil would make it stall - very frustrating for something that should be a secondary activity - done without even thinking about it.
Not to be used by kids, because they do not understand what is going on, they might not ease the pencil once sharpener stalls, making it overheat and burn.

I bought this item because I felt the name X-acto and brand Boston meant quality. However, after 8 days of use it stopped working. I teach in a special ed setting (9 middle school students). A dependable pencil sharpener is essential. I have bought sharpeners costing more than $50 as well as this model, and none can stand up to daily use. I'll be going back to a manual model this fall.

I wish that it would allow a little bigger pencil. There are pencils that my kids have that have a some sort of a thicker coating on it. Those have been harder to sharpen or not at all.

Bought this for my classroom in September '07 and we went through 5 of them throughout the schoolyear - good thing i saved the receipts! This thing breaks & jams like nothing I've ever seen. In the future I will spend the extra $$ for a more reliable unit.

Seems to really like eating pencils and secondarily sharpen. You have to hold the pencil back lightly from going into the machine as it wants to eat it rather than sharpen it. Doesn't do as good of job as the bosch that had served us to well over the years but we are getting used to it.

The students are better prepared when they can have sharpened pencils to use both in my class, and in the other classes. It does stop excuses that they don't have a pencil to use. It also helps to get class going quicker, and makes students more responsible.

I was disappointed in this product, but not so much to take it back. Pencils which are sharpened often come out with wood at the tip. It seems you have to put the pencil in just a certain way or it doesn't work right. It makes a good point if you can get the pencil in right.

I am a teacher. I bought this pencil sharpener to sharpen pencils for testing week. I was very disappointed in this sharpener. You have to shove the pencil in hard to get it to work and then the pencil sharpens unevenly. It took way too much time and work to sharpen one pencil, let alone the several I needed to give to my students. I wouldn't buy this one again or recommend it to anyone.

The sharpener only handles one size pencil. The hole for the pencil is too small and any pencil slightly overized either cannot be sharpened or gets stuck in the sharpener. I had to use extreme force to remove an ordinary Ticondaroga pencil.
